If you can’t beat ‘em, bribe ‘em! Chicago-style politics once again coming home to roost. The Weekly Standard is reporting that Obama is now selling judgeships for health care votes:

Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he’s obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson’s brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

“Scott Matheson is a distinguished candidate for the Tenth Circuit court,” President Obama said. “Both his legal and academic credentials are impressive and his commitment to judicial integrity is unwavering. I am honored to nominate this lifelong Utahn to the federal bench.”

Huh. How convenient. Especially when one takes into account Matheson’s past record on the health care boondoggle:

He voted against the bill in the Energy and Commerce Committee back in July and again when it passed the House in November. But now he’s “undecided” on ramming the bill through Congress. “The Congressman is looking for development of bipartisan consensus,” Matheson’s press secretary Alyson Heyrend wrote to THE WEEKLY STANDARD on February 22. “It’s too early to know if that will occur.”

Perhaps they learned from the bribes of Senators “you don’t even have to get us drunk first” Landrieu and Nelson that outright cash money bribery back-fires a bit and are trying different tactics for Congressman. Scratch my back and I’ll scratch — your brother’s!

Several years ago, Rush Limbaugh gave Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid the nickname “Dingy Harry,” suggesting a less-intimidating version of Clint Eastwood’s legendary big-screen hero. As Michelle Malkin demonstrated on “Hannity” last night, Reid is still living up to it.

Reid has been having difficulties selling national healthcare to the American people, and the Democrats are threatening to force a bill with a public option through the Senate via reconciliation (a process which overrides filibuster attempts and limits the amount of time a bill can be debated and how many amendments may be proposed during that time.)

During the segment, Malkin called attention to a Democrat attempt to bribe doctors into supporting ObamaCare:

Senate is preparing debate on a bill called “Doc Fix,” which would freeze cuts in Medicare payments to doctors for the next 10 years as a means to ease passage of Obamacare later this Fall. The version of “Doc Fix” was originally part of the Obamacare plan and the secret negotiators wanted to take $247 billion off the books of President Obama’s heath care legislation. The left would like to pass this bill, with or without offsets, so they can buy support for a public plan from a group, and a lobbying interest, that has opposed a government takeover of health care and the creation of a public plan.

The scheme failed, but the fiasco is yet another shining example of how Barack Obama hasn’t even tried to make good on his campaign promise to usher in a new era of trustworthy government, which has been so egregious that even liberals have noticed.

Allahpundit doesn’t think Reid will risk reconciliation, and he may be right—in addition to the reasons he gives about Reid’s political savvy and opposition from fellow Democrats, the next day Reid tried to have it both ways:

“We’re not even discussing [it],” Reid told reporters Thursday. “We believe health care should be bipartisan. We believe we have the opportunity to do that.” […] But when asked whether the option was on the table, as Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said earlier this week, Reid quipped: “I’ve never known Schumer to say anything wrong.”

Will Dingy Harry chance it? I guess he’ll have to take his namesake’s advice and ask himself, “Do I feel lucky, punk?”
