Gay Porn Entrepreneur Fights Anti-Semitism and Wins! Brain-Dead Gays Outraged!

2011 March 2

Anyone who has paid even scant attention to the political stances adopted by national gay organizations in the US over the last 20 years cannot have failed to notice that they are overwhelmingly leftist in their world-view.  Oh, there are exceptions to be sure, such as the Log Cabin Republicans, and more recently GOProud, but by and large, like the NAACP, which purports to represent the interests of African-Americans, the Human Rights Campaign and other “pro-LGBT” organizations traditionally have aligned themselves with leftists in general and the Democrat Party in particular.  They have essentially endorsed ideologies that offer them empty promises at best, and more often than not, actively perpetuate a mindset of victimhood. read more…

Defending Our Republic: Reforming Our Universities

2010 November 23

David Horowitz’s latest book, Reforming Our Universities, is above all a clarion call to action on the part of all who believe in the founding principles of the United States of America and wish to preserve it as founded.  That is to say that there are forces intent on transforming the U.S. into a European socialist-style nation, and that one of the most effective weapons in their arsenal is not just the domination of liberal arts faculties at American universities by leftist ideologues, but the way in which these professors often brazenly indoctrinate students into their belief systems without fear of reprisal by their administrators. read more…

Hot Post: 7 Reasons Why Conservatives Should Embrace Lady Gaga.

2010 September 26

Editor’s note: This was the Hot Post for The Concession Stand this week.

Much has been written of late concerning pop star Lady Gaga and her political statements.  The criticism she’s received from many quarters has in my view been excessive and has completely missed the fact that on balance Gaga is using her fame in a positive way to promote what are often essentially conservative ideas – albeit in a decidedly countercultural context. I suspect it is this context which causes many conservatives to dismiss her because it’s simply not in their nature to take anyone with such an outlandish public persona seriously. read more…

8/28 “Restoring Honor” Rally Emblematic of Ideological Divide

2010 September 1

The “Restoring Honor” rally this past Saturday on the National Mall, organized by Fox News host Glenn Beck, confounded critics even as it uplifted and inspired its participants.  I was among those attending the event, part of a truly massive crowd estimated conservatively (based upon aerial photographs) at somewhere between 300,000 and 500,000.   read more…

Andrew Sullivan: “Useful Homo”

2010 August 17

Andrew Sullivan’s recent expression of support for President Obama’s absurd statement defending the backers of the mosque at Ground Zero reveals staggering ignorance at best, and at worst contemptible moral cowardice in the face of a clearly anti-homosexual, anti-Semitic, misogynistic and brutally repressive ideology. From his blog The Daily Dish on Saturday, August 14, 2010: read more…

Strange Bedfellows?: Prop. 8 Battle Illustrates Folly of “Conventional Wisdom.”

2010 August 10

The back story of the federal court challenge to California’s Proposition 8, set forth in this recent Hollywood Reporter article, underscores the importance of avoiding easy generalizations and narrative templates.  It is in fact a case study in how reality often defies the neat categories into which we are all sometimes tempted to place people and ideas.  Who would have thought that Ted Olson, George W. Bush’s first Solicitor General, would be arguing in federal court that banning same-sex civil marriage violates the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment? read more…

Conservatives: Time To Get Aboard The “Gay Civil Union” Train

2010 August 8

There has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth within conservative circles following Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision this past week to strike down California’s Proposition 8, which had amended the state constitution to define marriage as being solely between one man and one woman.  Several of my fellow NewsReal bloggers have weighed in on this, followed by David Horowitz, who here takes a rational stance on the issue with which I essentially agree.

I’m not going to argue the merits of Judge Walker’s decision on Constitutional grounds, because in my view this is beside the point.  From a strategic standpoint, I believe it is in the conservative movement’s best interest to now argue in favor of a federal law recognizing civil unions between same-sex partners which would explicitly confer all the rights that civil “marriage” currently does.

I make this argument on the following grounds: read more…

Why Do Many Conservatives Fulminate Against Gay Marriage?

2010 March 15

Calvin Freiburger’s recent post on the recent controversy surrounding CA State Senator Roy Ashburn and the discussion that follows in the comments section make it clear that Freiberger not only fails to see anything wrong with denying marriage rights to same-sex couples, but also believes that doing so provides some benefit to society.  I see that Mr. Freiburger also supports the work of the Family Research Council in this regard. Since I’ve been unable to find any statement by Freiburger on how he defends said position after a review (admittedly not exhaustive) of his writing – both for NRB and his personal site – I invite him to provide one in this forum. read more…

CPAC 2010 – Final Day

2010 February 21

The final day of CPAC 2010 (Saturday 2-20) did not disappoint.  An array of conservative heavy-hitters, panel discussions and film offerings kept things interesting and conference attendees engaged.  The exchange of ideas and the inherently intellectual exercise that is conservatism was fully in evidence.

Things got off to a rousing start with a short but passionate speech by Andrew Breitbart, best-known for his websites BigHollywood.com, BigGovernment.com and most recently Bigjournalism.com. read more…

CPAC Day 2 – Jihad: The Political Third Rail

2010 February 20

(All photos provided courtesy of Pamela Geller – see her coverage of this event here)

While the agenda for day 2 of the CPAC conference featured a long list of additional conservative speakers and panel discussions, I will be focusing here on what I believe to be the single most important event of this three-day conference. Jihad: The Political Third Rail, was a panel discussion presented by Freedom Defense Initiative, a new activist organization started by Pamela Geller of atlasshrugs.com, and the Freedom Center’s own Robert Spencer, who runs jihadwatch.org.

CPAC 2010 Day One – Recap

2010 February 19

The first day of CPAC 2010 offered up an exciting melange of prominent conservative voices.  In addition, the diversity of viewpoints comprising the modern conservative movement was evidenced by the organizations who had purchased booth space in the exhibition hall here in Washington’s Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.  Groups as disparate as GOProud (a gay conservative organization), Focus on the Family, The National Rifle Association, Tea Party Patriots,  The Young America’s Foundation and Fairtax.org shared the large exhibition floor.

The day began with a kickoff speech delivered by one of the brightest rising stars in today’s Republican Party – Marco Rubio – currently running for the U.S. Senate from the state of Florida. read more…
