NewsReal Sunday: Franken Rape Amendment Vote Puts Republicans in Bad Light

Count me in the number as one who thought Al Franken being a senator was a joke.  I was sure that Minnesota would be shown as fools for allowing this jester into the Senate.  However, Franken may have just guaranteed the Democrats a continued Senate Majority after the 2012 elections by giving Republicans the chance to seemingly vote against justice.
Two weeks ago Franken added an amendment to the defense appropriation bill that passed in the Senate.  Franken’s amendment passed to no longer allow government contracts to companies who prevent employees from filing lawsuits against them for sexual harassment or assault. Franken put in this amendment after learning of the case of Jamie Leigh Jones. Jones claims to have been gang-raped in 2005  by employees of KBR – a division of Halliburton – in Iraq.  Jones says she was even temporarily locked in a room, so that she would not tell of her rape. Jones has attempted to take the company to court, until they pointed out that she signed a contract of employment that guaranteed such a case must be handled in private arbitration.
Update: Sanchez did give a somber apology today on CNN. He looked like he had been taken to the woodshed.
Here is his quote:
“We have been unable to independently confirm that quote. We should not have reported it without independent confirmation, and for that, I apologize.â€
“I feel it’s important on this show to hold folks accountable whenever they make mistakes. That’s what I try to do. And you know what? That should include myself, and that should also include my team. It’s important to let you know that.â€

Don’t taze me bro – just fire me!
If CNN’s 3pm anchor Rick Sanchez hadn’t convinced you in the past of his fake journalism by being tazered on television, spending quality news time directly attacking Fox News, or comparing Joe the Plumber to Fidel Castro then this week you should have no more doubts.  This week Sanchez did all he could to destroy the character of Rush Limbaugh by using a fake Limbaugh quote about slavery having merit.

Many in the National Football League (NFL) and in the media have decided that the prospect of talk-radio giant Rush Limbaugh owning an NFL team is somehow akin to a Klansman buying out Black Entertainment Television (BET). The latter would be scandalous, of course — even though the “N” word is probably dropped more frequently during that station’s programming than during the average Klan rally. In case you missed it, Limbaugh is considered to be a racist and a bigot by a whole lot of people who have never actually listened to the guy’s radio show.
And now, Limbaugh is wanting to co-own the St. Louis Rams. You’d think that would be nothing more than a simple bit of news. However in today’s culture, where accusations of racism are hurled about quite casually, Limbaugh’s purchase has become an issue of race.

Sarah Palin’s recent pre-order book sales success has produced tons of media attention lately — most of it negative, as the Left has passionately skewered Palin ever since she ascended to prominence.
But it wasn’t just those on the Left making Palin-bashing a pasttime. read more…

More information is pouring in about Fox News contributor Marc Lamont Hill, who has been in a public battle with David Horowitz of late. Horowitz has drawn attention to the far-left radicalism of numerous people whom Hill regards as political and ideological luminaries of a high order.
In an O’Reilly Factor appearance two years ago, for instance, Hill defended the America-hating professor Ward Churchill, who was fired from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2007. The issue that cost Churchill his job was an essay he had written just after 9/11, titled “On the Justice of Roosting Chickens.” In that piece, the professor asserted that the victims who had perished in the World Trade Center were akin to “little Eichmanns” who, as a consequence of their status as faceless cogs in America’s (allegedly destructive and exploitative) capitalist economy, had essentially brought the terrorist attacks upon themselves. The controversy that resulted from this essay led to an investigation that ultimately revealed Churchill to be a plagiarist unqualified to teach in his specialty.
Does Churchill’s argument make sense? Of course not. It’s crazy talk. Yet Hill went on television two years ago and defended this guy — and in fact agreed with Churchill’s assessment: read more…

Glenn Beck has become a hot topic of discussion lately on the cable news programs. Branding him as the new leader of the conservative movement and the Republican Party, many competitors are looking to destroy the man. On her new CNN program, for instance, Joy Behar made another in a long line of direct attacks on Beck during a September 30th interview with Ann Coulter; Coulter’s response was brilliant:

Yes, you read it right. I am giving props to Rachel Maddow for being one of the few TV people covering the secret religious organization known as “The Family,” which has housed politicians at a home on the District of Columbia’s C Street for decades.  Most of Maddow’s criticism centers around the organization’s attempt to cover up the sexual scandals of C Street members and politicians like Nevada Senator John Ensign, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, and former Representative Chip Pickering of Mississippi. read more…

Congressman Alan Grayson, Democrat from Florida, has garnered a lot of media attention as a result of his outlandish statements about Republicans who are opposed to a leftist government takeover of healthcare. From the floor of the House — on CSPAN for all to see — he claimed that the Republican plan for healthcare consists of nothing more than advising the uninsured to not get sick, and telling those who do fall ill that “[we] want you to die quickly.”
Grayson is so proud of his speech and the criticism it generated, that he posted it on his own Youtube site! read more…

Joy Behar, co-host of ABC’s The View, has been given her own show on CNN’s HeadLine News (HLN). Though Behar’s background is in comedy, she has cultivated a reputation for making outrageous, offensive comments that have drawn negative attention from many quarters, including Jewish and Catholic organizations. She recently parlayed her craziness to become an oft-used fill-in for Larry King on his program. The CNN folks liked her performance so much, they rewarded her with her own time slot.
Behar’s incendiary rhetoric is commonly unrestrained by any semblance of good sense. Back in December of 2006, for instance, she even made View co-host Rosie O’Donnell cringe by likening Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to Hitler.
