Poll: New Tone Nominees For 4/16-4/22

2011 April 22

Lefties love to blast conservatives for their “vitriolic discourse”, yet often fail spectacularly to maintain basic civility in their own discourse.   The New Tone Award is reserved for liberal notables who wallow in this hypocrisy.

I had thought that with this being Holy Week, I’d have to scale down my poll to fewer than the usual ten entries, but boy, was I wrong. Nothing can stop the left’s assault on human decency, not even the holiest week on the Christian calendar. One of our nominee’s even used Holy week as a pretext to attack and insult the tea party.

I generally ignore left wing websites because who has the time (or the stomach) to slog through their bile on a daily basis. But Wonkette really distinguished itself, this week, and deserves some special recognition. After this week, maybe I’ll  make Wonkette an honorary all time New Tone winner, so I don’t have to bother with them, anymore.

New Tone Nominees For 4/16-4/22

Paul Krugman on civility Jan 2011: “violent acts are what happen when you create a climate of hate. And it’s long past time for the GOP’s leaders to take a stand against the hate-mongers.” Krugman April 2011: “Civility is the Last Refuge of Scoundrels”

At the beginning of last week, the commentariat was in raptures over the Serious, Courageous, Game-Changing Ryan plan. But now that the plan has been exposed as the cruel nonsense it is, what we’re hearing a lot about is the need for more civility in the discourse. President Obama did a bad thing by calling cruel nonsense cruel nonsense; he hurt Republican feelings, and how can we have a deal when the GOP is feeling insulted?

Krugman last January:

You know that Republicans will yell about the evils of partisanship whenever anyone tries to make a connection between the rhetoric of Beck, Limbaugh, etc. and the violence I fear we’re going to see in the months and years ahead. But violent acts are what happen when you create a climate of hate. And it’s long past time for the GOP’s leaders to take a stand against the hate-mongers.

MSNBC guest David Cay Johnston suggests that Paul Ryan’s admiration for Ayn Rand makes him pro-terrorist.

“You know, Congressman Ryan requires his staff to read Ayn Rand, whose fictional hero, Howard Roark, is a man who blew up a building because it wasn’t built exactly to his specifications as the architect,” Johnston said. “I mean, that’s the kind of society we want where our leaders say, not only are we taking from the sick and poor but we’re going to hold out as a model people who commit felonies like blowing up buildings. We really need to dig into understanding the kind of people who would put forth these ideas.”

Lefties love to blast conservatives for their “vitriolic discourse”, yet often fail spectacularly to maintain basic civility in their own discourse.   The New Tone Award is reserved for liberal notables who wallow in this hypocrisy. Details about what each nominee said to deserve being singled out for this dubious honor, can be found below the poll.

After several weeks of doing this, we are starting to see some repeat offenders, and this week, one individual really distinguished himself by earning two slots in the poll.

Ed Markey (D-ranged): GOP “Trying To Destroy The Whole Wide World”

Some choice derangement from his rants about GOP legislation to stop ‘net neutrality” and stop the EPA from regulation greenhouse gases without Congressional authority:

  • the GOP is trying to shut down the Internet
  • GOP stands for “gang of polluters”
  • Republicans are trying to destroy the World Wide Web
  • Republicans are trying to destroy the whole wide world
  • from smokestacks belching massive amounts of dangerous global warming pollution
  • human health (from a trace gas necessary for most life on Earth) should be our priority
  • these two evil legislative twins would pull us in the opposite direction

Howard Dean Tells College Students Fox News Lies – Then Lies to Them Four Times

“What Fox News says is often not true, and they know it’s not true and they say it anyway. It is not a news organization. It is a very expensive, incredibly well-funded, right-wing propaganda organization.”

Dean continued to drive this point home claiming that the reason so many Fox viewers believed Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11 was because “they were lied to every single day on virtually every program on Fox News.”

Bill Maher Calls Sarah Palin a Vagina Again – This Time Beginning With a ‘C’

According to the Dallas Voice, this happened on Sunday while Maher was “performing” at the Winspear Opera House (photo courtesy Reuters):

It’s that fearlessness — he acknowledged that some people would probably be uncomfortable with some of his remarks about religion, not to mention calling Sarah Palin a “cunt” (“there’s just no other word for her”).

Ed Schultz: ‘Are You With The Terrorists, Or Are You With The President Of The United States?’

Republicans are attacking the Commander-in-Chief during a time of war! . . . There should be no debate: we ought to be kicking [Gaddafi’s] ass . . . Whose side are you on? Are you with the terrorists, Sarah, or are you with the President of the United States? . . . And I have to ask the question tonight: where is the patriotism from all of these war-hawks? Where’s the patriotism of the Republican party? . . . What about being a patriot?

Lib Talker, Stephanie Miller tells audience that her Republican mom’s bird masturbates to Fox News.
(more pathetic than uncivil).
Now, in all fairness, I had been warned about this because if anything can be compared to your 88-year-old Republican mother who raised you Catholic explaining to you how her bird masturbates, I don’t know what’s more disturbing. In my personal opinion, she sort of did what he does with his arms, except she had trouble with the word. She’s like, oh Stephy, what’s the word, masturbate. I was like, oh, I know, wow.
Atheist, Susan Jacoby, Slams Religious Americans As Having ‘Mind of a Preschooler’

In this universe of unreason, two plus two can equal anything you want and heaven is not only real but anything you want it to be. At age four, the inability to distinguish between fantasy and reality is charming. Among American adults, widespread identification with the mind of a preschooler is scary.

Tina Brown Blasts ‘The Big Greasy Paws Of Dick Cheney’

There’s semantic nonsense, really, about regime change, because the fact is it’s almost as if the phrase, regime change, has been tainted by the big, greasy paws of Dick Cheney.

Barney Frank: Bachmann ‘Cuckoo’, Tea Party Doesn’t Understand Constitution

“as with Congresswoman Bachmann and some others – when you’re talking about people who sometimes inhabit cloud cuckoo land and in cloud cuckoo land, yeah that could be the case.” Frank also said “the Republicans are so frightened by the Tea Party, that their leadership has backed away from an effort to compromise.”

AWOL Indiana Dem, Dave Cheetham: Hiding Out in Illinois Just Like Serving in Afghanistan

“The thing that sticks in my mind, I guess, more than anything else — and this is something that has happened. My wife teaches first grade. This past week, one of the kids in her class, a little first grader’s dad is getting sent to Afghanistan. And he was really sad. And she said, ‘Eell, you know, your dad is doing something really good. He’s going to a country where people there are trying to take away the freedoms of other people there, keep them from living a good life. So he’s leaving to do something good.’ And one of the little girls in class just on her own — and this has never been talked about in class, because my wife doesn’t do that — said, ‘It’s kind of like Mr. Cheatham, he left to make our schools better.’ And when I heard that, that gave me a reason —”

Video: Bill Ayers Tells Audience He Wrote Dreams From My Father

2011 March 28

Cross-posted at Nice Deb

Ayers is just the latest of a long string of lefties talking up revolution. That barely qualifies as news, these days.

But then, Ayers seemed to validate Jack Cashill’s thesis about him writing Obama’s book, Dreams From My Father. He closed by saying the same odd thing he said to Ann Leary in that coffee shop at Reagan International, October 2009; “if you can prove it, we can split the royalties.”  The audience clearly believed he was joking…

Poll: New Tone Nominees For Week of March 20-26

2011 March 25

The left loves to chastise conservatives for their “vitriolic discourse”, yet often fail spectacularly to maintain basic civility in their own discourse. The New Tone Award is reserved for liberal notables who demonstrate that double standard. Details about what each nominee said can be found below the poll.

Bill Maher, for calling Sarah Palin  a ‘dumb twat’:

“Did you hear this – Sarah Palin finally heard what happened in Japan and she’s demanding that we invade ‘Tsunami,’” Maher said. “I mean she said, ‘These ‘Tsunamians’ will not get away with this.’ Oh speaking of dumb twats, did you –”

David Corn for saying the reason Conservatives support Israel is because that’s where Armageddon is supposed to take place – “It’s not because they like Jews or Israelis!”
…there’s a certain brand of evangelical Christians who believe in Revelations, that Armageddon is coming, and that will happen in Israel basically….but that’s why they like Israel. That’s why they want Israel to be strong. It’s not because…It’s not because they like Jews or Israelis.
NOW, for grudgingly condemning  Bill Maher while moaning that the right is just using this to distract them from more important things

“You’re trying to take up our time getting us to defend your friend Sarah Palin. If you keep us busy defending her, we have less time to defend women’s bodies from the onslaught of reproductive rights attacks and other threats to our freedom, safety, livelihood, etc,” wrote Bennett. “Sorry, but we can’t defend Palin or even Hillary Clinton from every sexist insult hurled at them in the media. That task would be impossible, and it would consume us. You know this would not be a productive way to fight for women’s equal rights, which is why you want us stuck in this morass.”

Joy Behar for lying about Reagan’s AIDS record during her HLN Elizabeth Taylor tribute:

She didn’t like Ronald Reagan’s politics. She knew the Reagans and she was friends with them, I think, but she didn’t like his politics. And here is the reason, I think, because as the AIDS crisis began in 1981, and Reagan couldn’t even say the word “AIDS” until 1987, after 40,000 people had died from the disease.

Salon’s Joan Walsh for this howler:  ‘Unlike With Obama, People Who Criticized Bush Had Coherent Reasons’:
They’re just looking for opportunities to cheap shot the President. The people who were criticizing Bush had a coherent, had coherent reasons to criticize him. It wasn’t like that. There was coherence to the point of view, where as here, I think you’re exactly right. They would just be trashing him whatever he did, and it feels that way. It feels cheap, it feels shallow.
Former SEIU official, Stephen Lerner for his plan to destroy US capitalism and redistribute wealth and power:

We have to think much more creatively. The key thing… What does the other side fear the most – they fear disruption. They fear uncertainty. Every article about Europe says in they rioted in Greece the markets went down

The folks that control this country care about one thing how the stock market goes what the bond market does how the bonuses goes. We have a very simple strategy:

  • How do we bring down the stock market
  • How do we bring down their bonuses
  • How do we interfere with there ability to be rich

Frances Fox-Piven’s Leftist Buddy, Barbra Ehrenreich, for Attacking the Tea Party and Saying Americans Are Prozac-Popping Wusses That Won’t Riot:

Video at the link.
Al Gore, for saying,  we’re back in the “dark days” of the Bush era where “extreme elements” control GOP…

“Not since the dark days of the Bush administration have we seen a Republican-controlled Congress that is so intent on pushing their agenda in Washington — protecting tax breaks for oil companies making record profits, attempting to roll back environmental regulations, and not only refusing to pass climate change legislation in any form but refusing to acknowledge that climate change even exists,” Gore wrote in a fundraising pitch for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

Dem Rep. Gary Ackerman and MSNBC’s Cenk Uygur for agreeing that opposing Obama is “unpatriotic”…

On his MSNBC show this evening, Cenk Uygur suggested that opposition to President Obama’s Libya policy is “unpatriotic.” For good measure, Dem congressman Gary Ackerman stated that opposing the president is “cheering for the wrong team.”

Poll: New Tone Nominees For Week of March 13-19

2011 March 19

On January 8, 2011, an unbalanced follower of the left-wing Zeitgeist movement, Jared Loughner, targeting  Democrat Rep Gabrielle Giffords at a Safeway in Tucson, sprayed bullets through the crowd of constituents, killing 6, and injuring 13. Giffords, who miraculously survived,  was shot in the head at point blank range, and is still recovering from her injuries.

In the wake of that horror, the left blamed Sarah Palin, and the tea party, saying their uncivil rhetoric led to the senseless tragedy, and the MSM advanced that narrative in their reports. The National Institute For Civil Discourse was launched  by former Presidents Clinton and Bush I at the University of AZ in Tucson for  “debate, research, education and policy generation regarding civic engagement and civility in public discourse consistent with First Amendment principles”. As liberals used the unfortunate incident to call for a “new tone” in Washington, conservatives suspected that somehow the focus would only be on their tone, while libs would continue using uncivil and unhinged rhetoric unabated.

As the past few months have demonstrated, conservative suspicions have proven correct. The Left-Wing Institute For Civil Discourse was set up to track just how uncivil the left can be, and the double standard that exists in the reporting of left-wing incivility and violence.

The New Tone Award is reserved for liberal notables who spectacularly fail in the area of “civility in discourse”:

Chris Matthews for saying Huckabee Uses ‘Racist’ Tactics

Susan Sarandon for calling Scott Walker an ‘idiot’

Lawrence O’Donnell for asking, ” What makes Bachmann’s rich, white voters so ignorant?

Alan Grayson for saying Gov. Rick Scott wants FL to become like Somalia

Kathy Griffin for depicting ‘Tea Partier’ as birther on ‘Glee’

Harry Reid for saying “Tea Party with their “extreme positions” is “short-lived”

Biden for praising Unions for keeping Republican “barbarians from the gate”…

Vote for your choice, here.

And by high profile I really do mean high profile:  A former President, and a possible presidential candidate – George W. Bush, and Sarah Palin.

Leftists in Europe, still not ready to make nice with GW, prevented him from participating in a Jewish charity event in Switzerland.   Ed Morrissey reports, “left wing groups were preparing a decidedly hostile welcome for Bush and the trip had to be canceled”.
