Michael van der Galien
Michael van der Galien was born in the Dutch city of Leeuwarden in 1984. For as long as he can remember, he has been obsessed with the United States. When he was 17 years old, he started blogging - of course about America. His articles have been published at Big Hollywood, Pajamas Media, Hot Air (the GreenRoom) and Right Across The Atlantic. He's also an editor for the Dutch conservative blog, De Dagelijkse Standaard.
The Sept. 14 Republican primary in Delaware is one of the exciting races in the country right now. It’s current representative is Mike Castle. He is facing a serious challenge by Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell.
Interestingly enough, conservatives are divided about the question whom to support. Some, such as the folks at National Review, are convinced Castle-supporters. Others, for instance Dan Riehl, are passionately pro-O’Donnell. The debate between the two politicians’ bases is becoming increasingly aggressive in tone. See for instance here and here. read more…

1) Remember the stimulus bill? Republicans strongly opposed it and said it wouldn’t work. Democrats said it would revive the economy and keep unemployment under 8 percent. So, what happened? Democrats shoved through a bill that cost $1.1 trillion when you add in the interest. It cost more than the Marshall Plan, the Louisiana Purchase, and putting a man on the moon — combined. The result? The economy didn’t take off, the unemployment rate is still at 9.6 percent, and Democrats are calling for…you guessed it, another stimulus bill.
2) Perhaps the biggest problem with the economy right now is that businesses are so afraid of what the government will do that they’re stockpiling cash instead of spending it. Having a pro-market, Republican Congress that will oppose tax hikes, red tape, and damaging new legislation will reduce uncertainty and help give businesses the confidence they need to start hiring and expanding again.
Eugene Robinson Accidentally Exposes the Left’s Lack of Respect for American Voters
Eugene Robinson, columnist for the Washington Post, proves that conservatives are more than right (pun intended) when they accuse leftists of being anti-American. In his latest column for his newspaper, Robinson writes, reports Glenn Beck’s The Blaze website:
According to polls, Americans are in a mood to hold their breath until they turn blue. Voters appear to be so fed up with the Democrats that they’re ready to toss them out in favor of the Republicans — for whom, according to those same polls, the nation has even greater contempt. This isn’t an “electoral wave,” it’s a temper tantrum. …
Victor Davis Hanson wrote a fantastic column for Pajamas Media, in which he tries to explain why former President George W. Bush is now more liked than his successor, also known as the secular messiah, President Barack Obama.
He lists ten such reasons, every single one of the convincing. A small selection of the most persuasive – and often ironic – ones: read more…
YouTube user praterpost produced a fantastic video featuring tweets written by leftists during and after Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor rally last Sunday in Washington DC. It is a must watch for those who have yet to come to grips with the true nature of the Left, and the tactics it uses to destroy all those who dare espouse pro-freedom views.
An important – no, vital – point made by its producer is the racial hypocrisy and even the downright racism of progressives. They accuse Beck of racism, even though he hasn’t actually made a racist statement in, well, ever. If anything, the Fox News host is the anti-racist. He’s for freedom and liberty for all, not just for a selected few. Speakers at Restoring Honor included several African-Americans who have made a difference, among whom was Alveda King, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s niece. Somehow I can’t image the KKK asking her to speak at one of their events, can you? read more…
Get ready for it: two of NewsReal Blog‘s contributors, Mark Meed and Michael Merritt, will attend Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally and report about it for all of us.
“Restoring Honor” promises to be a fantastic event, that could have a major impact politically and, perhaps, culturally. Fox News has been promoting it for weeks now, millions are eagerly anticipating what’ll happen, and what’ll be said. Speakers include Glenn Beck himself (of course), feminist hawk Sarah Palin, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s niece Dr. Alveda King and Marcus Luttrell.
Although “Restoring Honor” is certainly a good name, “Restoring Freedom” would have been even better. To me, Beck is all about individual freedom, not honor as such. On the other hand, Beck’s intention clearly is to create a massive movement that’s dedicated to bringing back the values and principles of the Founding Fathers. If that’s not an honorable goal, I don’t know what is.
CSPAN will air “Restoring Honor” live. You can also watch it live at the event’s FaceBook page. Also: I’ll be live-tweeting it. To follow my tweets, go to my profile page.
How- and wherever you’ll watch it, be sure to check back often here for the latest updates and reports on this groundbreaking event.
Update: Walter Hudson and Mark Koenig will also be in attendance.

Fun fun fun from Tapper, who’s got a must-see highlight reel of the best spots. If you don’t have time to watch them all, at least check out Bobby Bright’s spot. Good lord — the man makes Dale Peterson look like a communist. Just switch parties already.
How far is Team Democrat willing to go to “re-brand” after 19 ruinous months of Hopenchange, with a near-majority of likely voters now calling Obama’s views “extreme”? A possible leading indicator:
