Christine O’Donnell Wins Republican Nomination – Now Moves on to Fight the Republicans

2010 September 15

Upon reading the reviews of Christine O’Donnell’s win over Mike Castle in the Delaware Republican Senate primary, one could be forgiven for conjuring up images of monks (a la Monty Python) walking around in a circle, whacking themselves with boards and chanting “Woe, verily woe!”

Ruth Marcus over at the Washington Post is scared and despondent:

… I had thought the silver lining of this election year might be to produce a Senate with a more robust cadre of moderate Republicans.

[…]

Now, it’s as plausible to envision a bolstered Jim DeMint caucus, following the disturbingly powerful junior senator from South Carolina: Sharron Angle (Nev.), Rand Paul (Ky.), Ken Buck (Colo.) — plus the two other incumbent-slayers of the primary season, Mike Lee in Utah and in Joe Miller in Alaska. Scary.

“Moderate” Republicans in Marcus’s world are Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins and Scott Brown. Lord knows the Senate will be deeply impoverished for lack of even more of such gelatinous types whose favorite color is plaid and never met a capitulation to the Progressive Democrats they couldn’t rationalize.

Evan Sayet once asked how many foreign armies would have to march through the Arc de Triomphe before it would occur to someone to change the name. Exactly how many Arlen Specter’s do we have to send to Washington before the Republican Old Guard will realize that never works out well?

Obama is an Anti-Colonial Marxist – In Other News the Rebels Have Fired on Fort Sumter

2010 September 14

I begin this offering with the odds-on favorite for the single stupidest sentence written in the last forty-eight hours (date range limited due to fierce competition):

Fueling the myth mongering that Barack Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said in a recent interview that the president may follow a “Kenyan, anti-colonial” worldview.

~ Huffington Post (who else). Full article here.

With this one assertion the author has achieved the hitherto impossible task of making Robert Gibbs appear profound. (It doesn’t help of course that Kleenex wringers like Michael Medved are lining up to denounce Gingrich based on his use of the words “Obama” and “Kenya” in the same sentence and the palpable inability of some to understand basic context, but I digress.)

What seems to have touched off this random discharge is a recent article in Forbes by Dinesh D’Souza entitled How Obama Thinks. D’Souza’s thesis, which Gingrich for one finds “stunning”, is that Obama’s world-view and policies are driven by the anti-colonial ideology of his (anyone, anyone) Kenyan father.

Pastor Jones Koran Non-Burning Story Tops the Balloon Boy

2010 September 13

In breaking news Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Lakeland FL, has unaccountably become trapped inside an enormous helium balloon headed for New York City. There is mounting concern for the pastor’s safety, as the surrounding airspace has become dangerously congested with chase planes from the media, including one from MSNBC that actually appears to be firing on it.

The news of this mishap was initially reported earlier today by a “close relative” of Jones, whose initial garbled report became intelligible when another unidentified voice (heard on the tape) counseled holding the handkerchief a little further away from the mouthpiece.

Why Reverend Jones would’ve chosen this particular mode of transport for yet another meeting with the New York Mosque planners is unknown. One intriguing theory is he thought it would be less threatening if he presented his demands in a high-pitched voice reminiscent of the Lollipop League. Another is that he loaded up the gondola with a metric ton of Koran’s and was planning a  Hindenburg moment if the talks went sour. These and other scenarios have captured the imagination of pundits, panelists and commentators everywhere, creating a spontaneous outpouring of solemn, credulous nodding not seen since the polar ice cap in its entirety melted away early last July. Across the airwaves regular programming exposing racist Islamophobes has been preempted by special programming exposing racist Islamophobes in balloons, with special emphasis on Sarah Palin.

Updates as they occur.

How Harry Reid Won the Iraqi War

2010 September 7

It has often been observed that whoever controls the past controls the future. Unhappily for Harry Reid in an age of Google, YouTube—and golly even the tape recorder–this is easier said than done.

Thus it is that Senator Reid, who finds himself in the fight of his life with Sharron Angle for reelection in November is attempting to use a very small eraser to expunge details of his past that might as well be carved in granite.

Preeminent among these (although there are multiple contenders) are a series of statements he made in April 2007 declaring the war in Iraq “lost,” at precisely the time the surge was demonstrably succeeding. Those of us unfamiliar with the subtleties of his thinking interpreted this as a craven and cynical political maneuver designed to undermine President Bush at the expense of our fighting men and women. Reid however–for reasons wholly unrelated to the firestorm his remarks initially created and whose consequences are repeating on him like a bad pizza in an election year–is happy to set the record straight.

Muslims Worshipers Occupy Paris Streets Illegally – Are We Tolerant or What?

2010 September 6

Mark Steyn, whose book “America Alone” provoked a flurry of quasi-judicial activity in Canada from the usual human rights sock puppets, must be feeling these days like his only mistake was underestimating the speed and scope of the problem he described.

Steyn’s essential point was when a moribund secularized society – unsure of what it believes in and equally uninterested in reproducing itself – accepts into its midst large numbers of prolific, zealous and inherently hostile members of another society, it doesn’t work out well for that first society. read more…

Hot Post: 8/28 Restoring Honor Rally – Notes from the Pit of Hatred

2010 September 5

This hot post was first published on August 30.

I wrote a month or so ago about my intention to attend the 8/28 Restoring Honor Rally despite the not-so-subtle-threats of the New Black Panthers and  the “looming” presence of Al Sharpton. I confess though as the date drew near I succumbed to profound misgivings—given dire warnings from the media that the rally would almost certainly turn into some combination of a Bund rally and a race riot. It was only after NPR assured me that it might not degenerate into a pit of hatred that I felt comfortable venturing into that maelstrom.

Southern Poverty Law Center and Radical Islam – Sharia the Wealth

2010 August 31

As Charles Krauthammer recently observed with trademark sagacity, Progressivism under siege is an ugly sight indeed.

Ah, the people, the little people, the small-town people, the “bitter” people, as Barack Obama in an unguarded moment once memorably called them, clinging “to guns or religion or” — this part is less remembered — “antipathy toward people who aren’t like them.”

That’s a polite way of saying: clinging to bigotry. And promiscuous charges of bigotry are precisely how our current rulers and their vast media auxiliary react to an obstreperous citizenry that insists on incorrect thinking.

Charges of bigotry, besides being effective at foreclosing debate can also be quite lucrative. Among the usual suspects none has been more promiscuous than the Southern Poverty Law Center, which has elevated race hustling and legal shakedowns to an art form. Business is good, as far back as 2000 SPLC was described by Ken Silverstein of Harper’s Magazine as “the wealthiest civil rights group in America.”

Obama-Putin “How I Spent My Summer” Pics Provide Too Much Perspective

2010 August 30

Whole barrels of ink (a few pints of which have been mine) have been expended describing the stunning disconnect between Obama’s  view of the world–driven in equal parts by ideology, naivete and a seemingly inexhaustible faith in his own charisma to reverse the tides of geopolitical reality–and the world as it really is. Few essays I have read however have crystallized things for me quite as well as the juxtaposition of “how I spent my summer” pics above.

Let’s be clear, I don’t care if Obama ever owns a gun, learns to throw a baseball or buys a man’s bike. I do care that competent, determined and very tough guys like Putin see him exactly as he is depicted in that picture. That’s bad for him, and worse for America.

Someone once described the old Soviet Union as being like a thief in a hotel walking down the hall testing every doorknob. Putin and his ilk are very much heirs to that way of thinking and Obama–possibly mistranslating the word “reset” once again– has already unlocked a great many doors for them. As residents of that metaphorical hotel it’s worth asking if he’s thinking of reviewing this open door policy before there’s nothing left.

US Government to Illegal Aliens – Behave Or We’ll Put Up More Signs

2010 August 21

As Congressman Ted Poe elucidates in the video below the federal government has come up with unique solution to the problem of undocumented aliens crossing our border in undocumented ways with undocumented consequences for public safety, the rule of law and the economy:  don’t go there — literally.

Accordingly the US government — which apparently can’t figure out how to construct a chain-link fence but has mastered rudimentary sign making — has posted warnings advising US citizens naïve enough to drive on US interstates within 100 miles of the Mexican border that they should turn north with all good speed whilst muttering apologies in their best Spanish.

Top Ten Questions the Media Will Never Ask Barack Obama

2010 August 19

Assuming President Obama holds another press conference sometime before the end of his first and only term, it is possible that members of the press corps (that’s pronounced “core” Mr. President) – having carefully gauged the darkening mood of the electorate—might pull themselves up to their full height and escalate their tone from “fawning” to “fawning with a soupcon of petulance.” Nobody much is holding his breath however since any sign of life from this group seems about as likely as Robert Gibbs delivering two coherent answers back to back.

We can dream however (at least until Washington figures out of way to tax it), so in the spirit of fantasy football here are some of the best questions the press corps never asked.

Time’s Joe Klein’s Jewish Grandmother Settles the Ground Zero Mosque Debate

2010 August 18

Like most of you I have been on pins and needles waiting to find out where Time’s Joe Klein would come down on the Ground Zero mosque issue. Thankfully, in a situation already replete with raw emotion and intemperate language, Joe takes the high ground with a magnum opus that showcases his signature sense of nuance and balance.  If, at the end, you aren’t raising your Bic in the air and singing “We Are the World,” you have no soul.
