“Moderate” Senate Republicans See the Glass as Three-Hundredths Empty

2010 November 5

In the aftermath of the greatest electoral power shift since 1932, at least one anonymous Republican senator – and a few others who probably should be anonymous – have decided the first public sentiment worth expressing is how annoyed they are about losing Delaware. This is doubtless a preview of the thoughtful, steady hand at the tiller they plan to apply in guiding the new arrivals towards moderation and pragmatism next year.

Mid-Term Elections — Ignoring the Chaff

2010 October 28

As the mid-term elections approach one might be tempted to feel some sympathy for the hapless Democrats as they sit frozen at the controls, wiping flop-sweat off their brows and fighting the growing panic that comes with realizing the high-pitched whine they keep hearing is actually a missile-lock warning. Anyone who appreciates the stakes involved doesn’t dwell on this very long however, and certainly doesn’t let it deter him from the important work of hacking them out of the sky.

This is particularly important now because they haven’t given up (because — and I may get some coasters inscribed with this — they never give up). With election day (or in Democrat parlance “impact”) fast approaching, and no discernible weapons to bring to bear – certainly not the record they don’t dare run on, or a president they don’t dare refer to – their only remaining option is to fill the air with flares and tinfoil. This is what you do when a big can of whoop-ass is headed your way and you have no way of stopping it – throw up lots of chaff and hope the weapon prefers Reynolds Wrap to you.

Hot Post: The Tides Foundation Exposes Glenn Beck’s Svengali-Like Hold on Really Inept Criminals Like Byron Williams

2010 October 24

Originally published on October 19, 2010

The Tides Foundation, “charitable, nonpartisan” organization and money-launderer for George Soros has evidently warned Glenn Beck’s sponsors that their continued support of him will result in “blood on many hands.”

The next “assassin” may succeed, and if so, there will be blood on many hands. The choice is yours. Please join my call to do the right thing in this regard and put Fox News at arm’s length from your company by halting your advertising with them.

(Full letter here.)

This is clearly penultimate to next week’s letter warning that wolverines will suck the organs out of sponsors’ steaming body cavities should they still not comply, but let’s play along for a while. read more…

Glenn Beck on His Health Issues and Counting the Cost

2010 October 10

As my colleague Michael van der Galien noted yesterday, Glenn Beck, who has for some months been experiencing a number of health issues, is taking some time off to attempt to have them properly diagnosed.

Next week on Monday and Tuesday, I am going to take time off. I’m going out West to have some testing done. I have told you before that I have been losing feeling in my hands and my feet and I have been feeling tingling in my hands and my feet, and it’s traveling up my arms and it’s just a very bizarre sensation. … I’ve told you also that I have been diagnosed with macular dystrophy, which means that I love this diagnosis I could be totally fine with eyesight for the rest of my life, or I could be blind within a year. The macular dystrophy has not progressed at all in the two months since it’s been diagnosed, but there’s something else that has also been going on. And if you’re a long time listener, you might be even be able to tell it I can just by listening to my voice now. There is something wrong with my voice, and we’re not sure what it is.

Hot Post: Rick Sanchez Fires Himself – Who Says XM Radio Has No Purpose?

2010 October 3

Editor’s note: This post was first published on October 1, here.

I must be the only person in North America who until moments ago had no idea Rick Sanchez was Cuban-American.  Until now I thought his only claim to minority status was membership in a select group of media personalities so stupid that even other media personalities recognize it, but his recent interview on SiriusXM talk show Stand Up! with Pete Dominick completely straightened me out.  I now understand he is both Cuban-American and a dolt. (The standard apology to Cuban-Americans and dolts everywhere will be shortly forthcoming.)

But wait, there’s more! In light of remarks Sanchez made in the aforementioned interview, and the sensible reaction of CNN, we can now add to these descriptors “anti-Semitic and unemployed.”

Louis Farrakhan – My Dinner with Mahmoud

2010 September 28

Barack:

Just sitting here reading the NY Post account of my “secret” dinner with Ahmadinejad. Wow, great logistics, thanks. If this had been any more secret they could have printed details of the menu (or a picture of Mahmoud doing the “see-food” gag for about the hundredth time), but I guess I should have known better than to let you talk me into this in the first place. You whose last attempt at “subtle and covert” resulted in a car chase right out of the Keystone cops — involving only the entire White House press corps — that was picked up by every 50 Watt news outlet in the Western Hemisphere. You whose best excuse when they caught up with your sorry derriere was that you were at your “daughter’s soccer game,” a story right up there with “honest honey she was just a nudist who came in to use the phone.” This is who I trusted to get me in and out of a meeting with this psycho unseen.

But never mind, what’s done is done. I’ll just put it on your tab.

Colbert Pretends to Testify, Congress Pretends to Listen, and We’re Supposed to Pretend We Care

2010 September 24

At the best of times there’s not a lot you can say about Stephen Colbert you can’t say about hemorrhoids, and no-one unfortunate enough to have witnessed his latest foray into the public eye will have confused this with one of his best times.

In case you missed the clip, or just couldn’t get through it for sheer embarrassment and pity, Colbert’s self-immolation can be summarized thus:

For reasons best known to his therapist, Colbert chose to use the occasion of his testimony before a House judiciary subcommittee, ostensibly dealing with farm workers and immigration, to recycle a lame and seemingly interminable comedy bit based on the sure-fire premise that American citizens are strangers to hard work and thus shouldn’t complain about illegals picking their tomatoes for them.

No, really, that was the bit. (Video after the jump.)

SEIU Operative Discusses Dirty Tricks Campaign – Oops That Flower Was a Microphone

2010 September 22

Y’know, it’s not that I object to your being a bastard, don’t get me wrong there. It’s your being such a stupid bastard that I object to.

~ President Art Hockstader in Gore Vidal’s The Best Man

For any of you weary of the fight with the well-entrenched socialist juggernaut–peopled we are assured with the brightest and best of humanity–I come unto you this day with news of great joy and encouragement. Of the many forces that will deliver our enemies into our hands none is so powerful as their own great and abiding stupidity.

Hot Post: Obama is an Anti-Colonial Marxist – In Other News the Rebels Have Fired on Fort Sumter

2010 September 19

This post was first published on September, 14 here.

I begin this offering with the odds-on favorite for the single stupidest sentence written in the last forty-eight hours (date range limited due to fierce competition):

Fueling the myth mongering that Barack Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said in a recent interview that the president may follow a “Kenyan, anti-colonial” worldview.

~ Huffington Post (who else). Full article here.

With this one assertion the author has achieved the hitherto impossible task of making Robert Gibbs appear profound. (It doesn’t help of course that Kleenex wringers like Michael Medved are lining up to denounce Gingrich based on his use of the words “Obama” and “Kenya” in the same sentence and the palpable inability of some to understand basic context, but I digress.) read more…

Glenn Beck and Goldline — The Weiner Re-Link

2010 September 18

For those of you tracking Congressman Anthony Weiner’s trajectory towards some kind of assisted living situation, when last we saw him he was decompensating on the House floor after a procedural end-run had backfired and a bill with bipartisan support had been defeated.
