Obama’s Grand Compromise Angers His Leftist Base But He May Not Care
Hell hath no fury like a Leftist betrayed. Barack Obama is under attack from his own progressive base for agreeing to extend for two years the Bush-era tax cuts for all Americans in return for certain concessions by Republican congressional leaders. These concessions include an extension of additional tax cuts for low-income workers from last year’s stimulus law, a thirteen month extension of unemployment benefits and a one-year cut in payroll taxes. It is also quite possible that Obama was willing to trade a short across-the-board extension of current tax rates in exchange for a vote on the ratification of his New START treaty.
Although fighting the inevitable all the way to the end, Obama reluctantly reached a bipartisan compromise in order to break a philosophical logjam between the parties and prevent a tax increase on all income brackets on January 1st. The New York Times called it “capitulation.” The left-wing newspaper, which is usually a reliable mouthpiece for Obama administration policies, complained that Obama “should have fought harder.” read more…

Today is the day that WikiLeaks is going to get a taste of its own medicine. Thanks to an early participant in WikiLeaks‘ operations dating back to 2006 and the beginning of 2007, who became so disgruntled with its leader’s outsized ego, lies and deceitful methods that he quit, we have a treasure trove of internal Wikileaks e-mails. I am including a portion of them here (with typos and all). The image above was WikiLeak’s original design for its logo, presumably to show a mole in action.
Mr. John Young, the disenchanted ex-WikiLeaker who runs his own website Cryptome.org and has posted these e-mails, removed the names of the authors and addressees on most of them. However, there is little doubt in my mind, judging from their tone and context, that the main voice of Wikileaks coming through in these e-mails is most likely none other than its founder Julian Assange, who is now being hunted by Interpol under a warrant for sex crimes that he allegedly committed in Sweden. read more…
In my post yesterday, I quoted from internal WikiLeaks e-mails pointing towards the real possibility of finding that George Soros was involved in helping to get WikiLeaks off the ground - perhaps by providing seed money to WikiLeaks or providing use of his name and connections to raise money, for example. And even the George Soros-funded Media Matters does not deny Glenn Beck’s claim that the WikiLeaks attorney Mark Stephens has done some pro bono work for Soros’ Open Society Institute.
Nevertheless, if you needed any more proof that WikiLeaks and George Soros’ shadow network of progressive groups are ideological soul mates, you need look no further than the Director of the New Internationalism Project, Phyllis Bennis, at the Soros-funded Institute for Policy Studies. She sees the release of so many purloined secret documents of the U.S. government as a liberating, cleansing act. read more…

The WikiLeaks State Department Disclosures – Another ‘Vast Conspiracy’ Against Hillary Clinton?
Right on cue, the New York Times has proven the point I made in yesterday’s post entitled “The Obama Administration Benefits From WikiLeaks.”
I argued that the obliging press, led by the New York Times, is spinning selected cables released by WikiLeaks to bolster the Obama administration’s narrative that it has saved the world from the allegedly irresponsible unilateralist policies of the Bush administration and is skillfully pursuing an alternative multilateralist approach. In its lead editorial today entitled “WikiLeaks and the Diplomats,” the Times went into Bush-bashing and Obama-praising overdrive. read more…
The Huffington Post is running an interesting article today entitled “The WikiLeaks Release: Blame the State Department, Not the World’s Media,” by a writer for the Guardian and the London Sunday Times, Simon Jenkins. He pointed out that the material leaked by WikiLeaks, and published by the New York Times and other newspapers, not only lacked top-secret classification. The State Department itself had made them available to some 2-3 million authorized users of the State Department’s own worldwide intranet.
Jenkins observed that the material went out uncensored, with names and sources disclosed, on the State Department’s intranet with an unsophisticated coding system. The material was downloadable and presumably capable of being forwarded on to anyone. read more…
The President of the United States issues an annual Thanksgiving Day Proclamation. In keeping with the Center of American Progress’ suggestion that President Obama use his executive powers to circumvent Congress on a number of key issues that have stalled in Congress, why not also use the Thanksgiving Day Proclamation in a more progressive way?

Another Left-Wing Media Apologist For George Soros and Attack Dog Against Glenn Beck
In this week’s New Yorker Magazine “Comment” column, Hendrik Hertzberg writes about Glenn Beck’s George Soros shows. Hertzberg, a left-wing columnist and former speech-writer for Jimmy Carter, accuses Beck of “turning facts into lies.”
Facts are facts, Mr. Hertzberg. Soros can no longer hide his skeletons.
Beck quoted Soros – in context – to prove Soros’ hostility towards the United States, his goal of global governance, and his messianic fantasies, among other things. read more…
Trashing the Constitution: Call Treaties Something Else And Forget All About What The Constitution Requires
James P. Rubin, former assistant secretary of state for public affairs during the Clinton administration, wrote an op-ed article on November 22nd in the New York Times entitled “Farewell to the Age of the Treaty.”
Rubin complains that it is too difficult to get treaties ratified under our constitutional process, which requires approval by two-thirds of the Senate. Like all devoted progressives, his answer is to forget about the Constitution altogether. read more…

Glenn Beck caused quite a stir last week with his three part series on George Soros. Even Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, got into the act and condemned Beck for what Foxman called his “over the top” remarks.
What set Foxman and other Beck critics off was Beck’s discussion of Soros’ experience as a Jewish teenager living in Nazi-occupied Hungary during the Holocaust. Soros survived by living with a non-Jewish family and assuming a non-Jewish identity. Soros accompanied and observed his phony “godfather” delivering papers to Jews and confiscating their property. read more…
