Which Path Will Our Nation Choose In Dealing With The Arizona Shooting?

2011 January 11

There are grown up and constructive reactions to the tragic Arizona shooting. And then there are the puerile and destructive reactions.

So far, President Obama has chosen the high road, and shown grace and dignity in this time of sorrow. Let’s hope that he goes tomorrow to the memorial service for the fallen in Arizona with the intent to help heal the hearts of the mourners. He should continue to condemn violence, and lay the blame where it belongs. The alleged shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, is neither a right-wingnut or a left-wingnut. He is just a complete non-partisan nutjob. And the president should remind us all that a nutjob’s violence is not an excuse to suppress free speech and robust debate which, in a free society, are intended to replace violence as a means to resolve differences.

Unfortunately, some members of Obama’s party have taken the low road. They are exploiting the tragedy for political purposes. read more…

Paul Krugman’s Libel Against Conservatives: It’s All About Forcing “A Return Of The Fairness Doctrine To The Media”

2011 January 10

Left-wing New York Times columnist and economist Paul Krugman is exploiting the tragic shooting in Arizona Saturday, which claimed six lives, including the lives of a federal district court judge and a 9 year-old girl, and which critically wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. In a disgraceful op-ed column today entitled “Climate of Hate,” Krugman pinned the blame for the shooting on the Right.

Krugman’s discredited spend-and-borrow economics are bad enough. But his attempt to pin the senseless acts of a deranged young man on conservative politicians and political commentators is libelous. It is an obvious attempt to squelch free speech in America by justifing what Krugman has long advocated:

a return of the Fairness Doctrine to the media read more…

10 Suggestions For Katie Couric’s New Muslim Family TV Show

2011 January 7

CBS News Anchor Katie Couric denounced what she perceives as  anti-Muslim bigotry in this country and suggested a Muslim version of “The Cosby Show” to counteract it. This new show, in Couric’s mind, could enhance the image of Muslim-Americans much as the “Cosby Show” did for African-Americans.

Apparently, the trigger for Couric was the intense opposition to the building of the $100 million, 15 story Islamic mega mosque and community center complex so near Ground Zero. Frankly, however, I don’t think that any mushy, feel-good TV sitcom featuring Muslims will help the survivors of 9/11 or the families and friends of those who perished that day get over what happened that day.  I don’t think it will make them stop believing it is just a wee bit insensitive to build anIslamic tower so close to the World Trade Center Towers where nearly 3000 innocent people were slaughtered by radical Muslims. read more…

The Global Radical Islamic Threat To Freedom: Ignore Or Excuse At Our Peril

2011 January 6

In an editorial today entitled “Under Siege,” the New York Times laments the recent violence committed by radical Islamists against Christians in Egypt and Iraq. Yesterday, the Times ran an editorial entitled “A Brave Man Killed,” in which it lamented the assassination of Salman Taseer, the governor of Pakistan’s Punjab province who had called for the repeal of Pakistan’s anti-blasphemy law. This law, popular with Pakistan’s Muslim majority, imposes a mandatory death sentence on anyone convicted of insulting Islam.

Under the anti-blasphemy law, a Christian mother of four was sentenced to death.

The Times recognizes these symptoms of a virulent disease but is incapable or unwilling to connect the dots in order to decipher its cause or scope – global Islamic fundamentalism. read more…

Repealing The Job Killing Obamacare

2011 January 4

With one simple stroke, Representative Eric Cantor (R-Va) has introduced for consideration by the new House of Representatives a 250 word bill repealing the 2000 + page Obamacare law. The bill’s title says it all – the ‘‘Repealing the Job Killing Health Care Law Act.” read more…

Filibustering Prevents Freedom Busting

2011 January 4

With the start of the new year, the Left is determined to make good on at least one of its New Year resolutions – going after the Senate filibuster.

With its typical arrogance, the New York Times’ lead editorial on Monday complained that the current filibuster procedure, which requires 60 votes to invoke closure and allow legislation to proceed to a Senate vote, “produced public policy that we strongly opposed.” The Times wants the dwindling Democratic majority in the Senate to ram through a major rule change on the first day of the new Senate session to weaken the minority’s ability to use the filibuster. Hendrik Hertzberg,  senior editor of the New Yorker, agrees. Describing the filibuster as “the arsenal of senatorial death rays,” Hertzberg is also pressing for major changes that would defang the filibuster.

You see, the Left just cannot accept the fact that perhaps its big government, anti-freedom agenda is the problem, not the speed bumps that managed to slow the agenda down. The filibuster is purposely intended to make the majority controlling the Senate deal with the minority’s concerns, out of which a larger consensus for big changes can emerge. read more…

Time Magazine’s Joe Klein Sums Up 2010 As Not Much – A More Accurate Description Of His Own Opinions

2010 December 30

My namesake Joe Klein wrote in his latest Time Magazine column that nothing much happened in 2010. If he meant to say that the progressives did not achieve their agenda of fundamentally transforming America into a European-style democratic socialist welfare state, I think he is right. But in this case less is more.

The Republicans played good defense and prevented the creeping government take-over of key parts of our economy under President Obama from becoming a catastrophic rout of our free market capitalistic system . Fueled by the historic groundswell of the Tea Party movement, voters in the midterm elections restored some needed balance to our government – 63 House seats, 6 Senate seats, 5 governorships, 20 state legislative Houses, some 700 seats in state legislatures nationwide. read more…

The UN: Liberty’s Enemy

2010 December 30

In a fitting year-end commemoration of the United Nations‘ accomplishments,  the Security Council and General Assembly were evacuated recently amid reports of a “suspicious odor” at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The stench turned out to be sewage-related.

To be fair, the United Nations headquarters is going through some major reconstruction work, which could explain the sewage and the spate of bedbug attacks reported around the UN headquarters. Perhaps, in retrospect, the UN’s staff would have been better off following the design ideas of former U.S. Ambassador to the UN John Bolton. Ambassador Bolton had wisely suggested  that nobody would notice the difference if we lost ten stories off the top of the United Nations building.

At the time Bolton made this suggestion, Bolton’s opponents criticized his lack of respect for the globalist shrine adorning the East River skyline of Manhattan. Actually, Ambassador Bolton was being kind. The problem is not just the UN’s stench of corruption, incompetence and lack of managerial discipline, which are shocking enough. read more…

Mayor Bloomberg’s Snow Job

2010 December 29

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has experienced this week his own Katrina-BP oil spill disaster management moment. Two days after a blizzard dumped more than twenty inches of snow on the city where I live, snow-clogged streets still abound, continuing to prevent New Yorkers from resuming even a semblance of their normal lives. The mayor has been giving New Yorkers a snow job rather than making sure the snow on the streets is removed on time.

It took the billionaire Bloomberg, who aspires to the title of the greatest mayor ever, more than 24 hours to realize that the situation was more than just “inconvenient.” Perhaps that is because his own posh Manhattan street was promptly cleaned. But as scenes displayed on TV and the Internet demonstrate, such has not been the experience for many New Yorkers. read more…

Obamacare Regulators Are Getting Ready To Pull the Plug On Grandma

2010 December 28

The New York Times, bless its heart, is looking out for Grandma. In a  front page lead story on Christmas Day, the Times reported that the Obama administration is planning to enact a new Medicare regulation, effective January 1, 2011, under which the government will pay doctors who advise elder patients annually on options for end-of-life care, which may include advance directives to forgo aggressive life-sustaining treatment. In other words, the Obama administration will ensure that doctors will be incentivized to badger Grandma year after year whether she wants to pull the plug rather than seek treatment if and when she becomes seriously ill. read more…

Durban 3 – Kick This Horror Show Rerun Out Of New York

2010 December 27

The United Nations General Assembly stayed in session until 4 in the morning to vote 104 to 22, with 33 abstaining, to hold a “Durban 3 ” World Conference Against Racism summit in New York, on September 21, 2011.  Given the rampantly anti-Western and anti-Semitic record of the first two Durban racism conferences, holding this one in New York ten days following the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks would constitute a disgraceful insult to our country. read more…
