As a board member with the Opportunity Charter School (OCS) in Harlem, New York, I’m familiar with the challenges facing children in an urban community.
This is especially true for children who have learning disabilities. At OCS, students are taught with a focus on their individual learning needs. Parents are grateful that their child is part of a positive learning environment and hopeful for their future.
OCS was recently granted a three-year renewal of its charter, but it was an uphill battle. Despite its willingness to go against the trend in charter schools by taking in tough cases, the city and state held them to a very high standard. The fact that they emerged successfully from a government-imposed probation is a testament to the hard work of the staff and the ambition of the parents and students.

“Game Change,” a new book about the 2008 presidential election, reveals remarks Senator Harry Reid made about then Senator Barack Obama. Reid’s comments that Obama is a “light-skinned” black man “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,” have garnered a wide array of responses.
It’s amazing how fast black politicians and so-called civil rights groups rallied around Reid to protect liberal policies.
Not all blacks fall in lock-step with liberal politics. That’s why Project 21 issued this press release.
Hackers work in the dark to disrupt the free exchange of ideas.
Fighting for conservative principles does have consequences. Tuesday’s attack of Newsrealblog.com caused significant problems for the blog’s staff and inconvenience for its loyal visitors after hackers posted profanities on the site and affected its performance.
Not only does this assault on Newsrealblog.com show that the enemies of liberty will do anything to stifle free expression, it is yet another example of how low the Left’s intimidation and vitriol can go.
As a black female conservative, I’ve been personally targeted because my views don’t square with liberal ideology. I’ve been called a “sell-out,” “Auntie Tom” and “house nigger.” read more…
