Sean Hannity, Miss California, & the Dangers of Hero Worship

2009 November 10

Ms. California

The future of the conservative movement has been a topic of particular interest here at NewsReal: Where should we compromise, and where should we draw the line?  How do we best advance our ideas?  What has the Right done wrong?  Last night, Sean Hannity interviewed former beauty queen Carrie Prejean, and unfortunately demonstrated a lesson many conservatives have yet to learn: be wary of right-wing hero worship.

Bachmann & Friends' Message to Congress: Read the Bill! (Updated)

2009 November 7

donttreadonmeFall will turn to winter soon, but if the White House thinks the summer’s tea party movement is going to cool down with the weather, they’re in for disappointment.

On Thursday, between 20,000 and 45,000 Americans descended upon Capitol Hill (along with talk radio host Dr. Mark Levin and conservative actor Jon Voight) to protest the nationalization of America’s healthcare system, answering a call put out by Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) just a week before.  Bachmann and Rep. Steve King (R-IA) joined Sean Hannity to reflect on the defiant spirit of the American people, as well as ObamaCare’s political prospects.

ABC's Alien Invasion Drama "V" Is Too Real for the Obama Administration

2009 November 5

v_tvmini

When I first heard liberals howling about supposed anti-Obama messages in ABC’s new sci-fi drama “V,” I rolled my eyes.  The story of Earth falling for the false promises of sinister aliens may sound like the Barack Obama Hope-&-Change Tour 2008, but it’s hardly a new theme for the science-fiction genre—not only did “The Twilight Zone” famously tackle it way back when, but “V” itself is actually a direct remake of a TV miniseries that first aired in 1983.  Any resemblance between the 44th President and two-faced space lizards had to be coincidental…at least, that’s what I thought before Sean Hannity aired clips from the new show.

Obama Appoints Race-Baiting Judge; Left Thinks Real Scandal Is That Conservatives Noticed

2009 November 3

racecard

Conservatives want other conservatives in judgeships.  Liberals want other liberals.  Big surprise, right?

Apparently it is if you’re Cenk Uygur, host of liberal Sirius radio show The Young Turks.  On his October 29 webcast, Uygur mocked Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly for criticizing one of Barack Obama’s latest district court nominees, Judge Edward Chen of San Francisco.   Chen has quite the left-wing record, from which Hannity highlighted two examples: his self-described “feelings of ambivalence and cynicism when confronted with appeals to patriotism,” and his revelation that among his first reactions to the September 11 attacks was fear over what Americans would do to Muslims in response.  For daring to say Chen shouldn’t be confirmed, Hannity is apparently perpetrating a “witch-hunt.”

Michelle Malkin Challenges "Dingy Harry" on Hannity

2009 October 30
dirty-harry.thumbnail

This is basically the Democrats' method for achieving socialized medicine.

Several years ago, Rush Limbaugh gave Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid the nickname “Dingy Harry,” suggesting a less-intimidating version of Clint Eastwood’s legendary big-screen hero.  As Michelle Malkin demonstrated on “Hannity” last night, Reid is still living up to it.

Reid has been having difficulties selling national healthcare to the American people, and the Democrats are threatening to force a bill with a public option through the Senate via reconciliation (a process which overrides filibuster attempts and limits the amount of time a bill can be debated and how many amendments may be proposed during that time.)

Dan Rather's Idea of News – Thanks, But No Thanks

2009 October 26
42-15348976

At least someone likes Dan Rather.

TV Newser reports that ex-CBS anchor Dan Rather has weighed in on the Obama Administration’s attacks on the Fox News Channel.  Given the example of Glenn Beck interviewing Ann Coulter about Rush Limbaugh, Rather said,

“One entertainer interviewing a second entertainer about a third entertainer isn’t my idea of news.”

He complained about corporate influence corrupting journalism, and stated his opposition to any potential effort to censor any news or opinion outlet, even a purely-propagandistic cable station—“and we may be near that now.”

Oh, where to begin?

Some Inconvenient Truths About Fox News

2009 October 22

fox

The Obama White House’s war on Fox News has put the spotlight on the current president’s extraordinarily thin skin, especially considering that The One can count on the rest of the media to embark on such objective ventures as psychoanalyzing Rush Limbaugh’s audience.  Those of us who actually bother to watch Fox regularly know that, despite their admittedly conservative slate of pundits, their hard reporting is solid and they employ more than a few left-wing correspondents, including Juan Williams, Susan Estrich and Bob Beckel (indeed, until NewsReal shed light on his extremism, FNC even employed Marc Lamont Hill).  But the Left’s long-standing caricature of Fox as a right-wing propaganda outlet becomes even more empty when we take a trip down memory lane and take a closer look at some of Fox’s more prominent personalities.

Ann Coulter: Retreat in Afghanistan?

2009 October 19

ann_coulter0608

I’m a big Ann Coulter fan, and agree wholeheartedly with David Swindle’s view of her as the most valuable piece currently on the Conservative Chessboard.  But recently on “Geraldo at Large,” she came dangerously close to calling for a U.S. withdrawal from the war in Afghanistan.

Ann makes a good point (elaborated upon in her latest column) about the Left’s arbitrary distinction between Afghanistan as a “war of necessity” vs. Iraq as a “war of choice” being a headache entirely of their own making, but there’s far more at stake on the battlefield than the Obama Administration’s PR woes.
