3. A Warm Welcome From Harry Reid’s Supporters
How often do we hear the Left crying out for “civility,” while it’s leftists who are the most uncivil and least peaceful? It happens time and time again, and Andrew Breitbart witnessed it first hand while traveling on the Tea Party Express tour in March 2010.
The tour had a stop in Searchlight, Nevada, the hometown of Senator Harry Reid. Reid’s supporters stood along the highway holding signs attempting to point the Tea Party folks in the wrong direction. As Breitbart’s bus came nearer, circumstances took a violent turn (or “went South,” in Breitbart’s terms):
Supporters of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid staged a counter-protest today in Searchlight, Nevada, the Senator’s hometown. Reid supporters gathered just down the road from the launching point of the Tea Party Express tour, and when Breitbart happened upon them, he was met with threats of violence. At least one protester threw an egg at Breitbart, missing him. Eggs were also thrown at the Tea Party Express bus.
Classy, right? It gets worse. The photo at the top of this page is of a Reid supporter:
…who, in his ardent support of his beloved Senator Reid, threatened to behave in a way which would land him in jail if Andrew Breitbart was not removed from the area.
Breitbart bravely didn’t back down. He said, “I don’t like backing down from a confrontation,” so he gently attempted to engage a few of the demonstrators in conversation, with cameras present. However:
To add insult to insult, Reid supporters called the police to report that Breitbart had provoked an incident.
Breitbart was approached by police officers who asked him questions about the incident, showing his own video as proof of his innocence. The clip below contains audio of Breitbart telling the whole troubling, almost surreal story from his perspective:
