This clash between s0-called liberal western views and the love for the spread of Islam continues with another kid in the movie.  The start of the film is about a young girl named Rifdha. She wears around her sweet face the strict black hijab. Rifdha appears very intelligent and actually has been educated in math and science. But when Rifdha reveals she wants to be an ocean explorer and scientist, her strict Muslim father demands that she reject further education to become a housewife.

Such scenes cause an initial reaction in the Left to shout out pro-women and pro-education sentiments. The internal struggle was clear in an article by the Huffington Post’s Hoda Osman (a liberal Muslim herself).

It is therefore heartbreaking when we then hear her conservative father saying he wants to move to a different country to ensure his daughter gets a religious education and that he doesn’t wish for her to work, but to become a housewife. The disappointment in the audience could almost be felt.

Osman proclaims that the mother is like a hero in that she wants her daughter to have a great education and future as a scientist.  She recounts that at the screening Rifdha and her parents were actually there along with the film’s director.  Afterwards they took questions.  And one person had the guts to ask the father directly if he would be open to letting Rifdha get more education and be a scientist.  The Muslim father responded by saying Rifdha must be a housewife.

Just when Osman and all the Progressives are about to come to their senses about Islam, the director of the film speaks up.  Here’s how Osman ends her article:

The director quickly took the microphone and spoke some words of wisdom. When we go around the world making films we don’t tell people how to live their lives, he said. Nobody tells us how to live our lives, he added. He graciously thanked the family for coming all the way to New York to attend the opening.  Inspiring film. Good point. Lesson learned.

And there you have it.  It doesn’t matter what the Left believes about education, women, or freedom. The spread of Islam must happen.  We must not fear it or reject any part of it.  We can’t push our values on them, no matter how much the culture of Sharia spreads into our own borders.

Many of the articles on the film screenings reported the movie getting large standing ovations.  It reminded me of a line from a Star Wars films:

So this is how liberty dies…with thunderous applause.
