As a kid, I used to hate taking medicine. (Except for orange Triaminic — that stuff was awesome! I tried to fake being sick once just to be able to drink some of it, but my mom was on to me.) Most medicines tasted terrible, and I was just stubborn enough to not want to take them. My mom used to say, “But it’s good for you. It’ll make you feel better.” That didn’t matter. I didn’t want the awful taste, so I simply didn’t want to swallow it.

The Obama administration has mixed up some bitter medicine for the country in their attempt to cure the ills of the nation’s health care system. Interestingly enough, the American people have clamped their mouths shut as tightly as they can, attempting to refuse to swallow the medicine of Obamacare:

A new Associated Press-GfK Poll shows support for President Obama’s health care overhaul is at its lowest level (35 percent) since passage, with opposition at 45 percent. Among seniors, support has dipped below 30 percent for the first time in AP-GfK polling.

But it’s not stopping the federal government from trying to shove the spoon down our throats.

We’re beginning to learn the lengths to which the administration is going in their attempts to sway Americans to accept socialized medicine — and learn to like it. The Pittsburgh Tribune reports:

The Obama administration has plenty of public money on hand to sell the castor oil that is ObamaCare. Trouble is, it isn’t having much luck convincing Americans to gag it down.

Documents obtained by Judicial Watch reveal a taxpayer-funded multimedia campaign — up to $200 million — to advance ObamaCare along with other Health and Human Services initiatives. Must be part of President Barack Obama’s ingenious plan to reduce the federal deficit by spending more money.

The most obvious attempt by the administration to sway public opinion in favor of socialized medicine was the ad campaign featuring Andy Griffith. The government spent $3 million dollars on three ads featuring the venerable actor hawking Obamacare. Here’s a taste:

Now I’m a son of the South, where Andy Griffith is an absolute institution, particularly for older generations. If there were a Southern version of Mount Rushmore, his head would be on it. At the same time, plenty of people I know have lost some respect for him as a result of these ads. For the administration to use someone as well-respected as Griffith is shameless and offensive. (I can just hear it now: “Let’s get Andy Griffith! He’s loved by seniors, and they’ll do whatever he says.”) Here’s what Fact Check has to say about the ads:

Would the sheriff of Mayberry mislead you about Medicare? Alas, yes.

In a new TV spot from the Obama administration, actor Andy Griffith, famous for his 1960s portrayal of the top law enforcement official in the fictional town of Mayberry, N.C., touts benefits of the new health care law. Griffith tells his fellow senior citizens, “like always, we’ll have our guaranteed [Medicare] benefits.” But the truth is that the new law is guaranteed to result in benefit cuts for one class of Medicare beneficiaries — those in private Medicare Advantage plans.
