1. Obama is just trying to woo independents for 2012.


The biggest concern of the Left right now is that Obama is going soft.  They worry he is giving up principle to stay in power.  Sadly, these folks find themselves agreeing with Rush Limbaugh who said Wednesday’s deficit speech was in reality, a campaign speech.

This speech seemed to be designed to appeal to those swing-independent voters. – Chuck Todd, MSNBC

Could Obama be pulling a Bill Clinton, who after a terrible congressional loss in the ’94 elections declared the era of big government was over?  People still don’t know the answer, but Obama’s deficit speech makes them worried.

Obama is embracing deficit-reduction as a top priority because he and his top political advisers believe that he has lost independent voters and that to get them back. – Mother Jones

A true zealot for socialist-leaning policies wants action not politics.  They hate politics except as a tool for power.  They want Obama to win reelection, but think he should take advantage of the power he has now.  Most of them believe Obama would win if he would pursue his beliefs with reckless abandon, but if he doesn’t win, it doesn’t bother them much.  At least change will happen.  They liked the Obama that passed government healthcare regardless of what people said they wanted.

I want to see leadership, resolve and a reflection of Obama’s social conscience. It’s hard to rally behind a man who appears willing to give up his principles in order to keep his job. – Truthdig

Time will tell if Obama is more pragmatic or principled.  Even if he becomes pragmatic for the rest of his first term, a second term will guarantee his life-long leftist convictions will come back.  In those years he will attempt to undo all moderate actions he takes between now and the 2012 election.

Voters should pay more attention to the Obama of 2009 when listening to the Obama of 2011.  The Left will continue to find reasons to whine for the same reason.  They want Obama the Activist-in-Chief and will keep crying unless they get him.  All the while it appears our budget problems are nowhere near getting fixed.

We need less speeches and more action.
