Have you ever considered just how empty some of our parental directives actually are? With phrases like, “Words can never hurt you” or “Just ignore him, and he’ll leave you alone.” With a straight face, we give our hand-me-down wisdom with little thought to what we are saying– as the kid stares at us in utter disbelief. Even a child knows that’s a suicidal playground strategy.

In the grown up world, words can get you beheaded, and sharing can get you shot with your own gun. Nonetheless, in a jaw dropping display of leftist moral superiority (not to mention military ignorance) Matt Lauer, co-host of MSNBC’s TODAY, put a human face on the phrase “useful idiot” as he expounded on foreign policy.

It started out looking like your average fishing expedition into Rep. Michele Bachmann’s presidential aspirations, when Lauer started a game of “If you were president, what would you do?” He baited his hook for the Minnesota representative, with Muammar Gaddafi’s emotionally charged threat that troops were on the way, and would show no mercy. They would “find them in their closets.”

Lauer, was obviously expecting Bachmann to take the bait and create a new media feeding frenzy around a tasty sound bite. Instead, he tangled himself up in his own line.

But you really have to hear it for yourself.

Bachmann:

I think what presidents do is they stay involved and try to get the very best intelligence they can. One thing the American people need to know is we did not know, nor did the intelligence community know who the opposition is. If we are going in — because, remember, there was just testimony yesterday that there are flickers of al Qaeda. We don’t know how much al Qaeda is involved in the opposition forces. Why would we want to strengthen al Qaeda’s hand in North Africa? That certainly wouldn’t be in the interest of the United States.

Lauer:

Let me flip that coin on its other side. If there are flickers, as you say, of al Qaeda among the rebels, would it not be a sign to them or show them that the United States has compassion and we are willing to use our military might to help all people?

[Emphases mine]

Bachmann:

Compassion for al Qaeda?

Lauer:

No. Compassion for civilians in Benghazi.

Not only does Lauer brush aside the prospect that we are assisting, fighting along side, and considering arming the very people we ARE at war with. The organization that proudly claims responsibility for 9/11, he is presenting the ridicules notion that America needs to show our enemy that we have “compassion.”

Islamists don’t hate us because they believe we are not nice people. Nor do they hate us because of our foreign policies, or any other reason that the Left can manufacture. They hate us because we exist. We are infidels. Among us, they do not see innocent people.

They are not going to stop trying to kill us because they see our compassion. Rather, they are going to gladly play the role the Left will cast them in– that of “freedom fighter.”

Then, armed with the guns we provide, they will move into power, once that power is gained, they will gladly recycle those same guns to kill us. It’s a win-win for them.

With the radicals in power here at home, and the Islamists garnering the kind consideration of useful idiots like Lauer—Libya could make the Vietnam “conflict” look like the Hatfields and McCoys.
