When I wasn’t lapsing in and out of a coma, induced by watching MSNBC last week, I was treated to Rachel Maddow’s snore-fest nuclear core technology lesson (complete with giant cardboard cylindrical poles). Maddow joined the chorus of scare-technicians in the press who are certain that this nuclear disaster in Japan will be the end of life as we know it. Certainly it will be the end of life as the Japanese know it but, if I had to guess, not for very long because instead of working themselves into a panic, the Japanese will get to work to recover and rebuild. Not Rachel though. She’s one step away from demonstrating radiation poisoning symptoms with finger puppets. (Yes, she has finger puppets.)

The True Twit has spent an entire week decrying nuclear technology, in perfect chorus with the Left’s war on energy. She talked to experts like David Lochbaum from the Union of Concerned Scientists who is most concerned with the false science of Global Warming and how nuclear technology affects the not-warming planet. She talked to professors from Columbia who detailed for us the horror of radiation sickness, stirring up fears of exposure. She entitled one segment “Japan: From Bad to Worse.”

Instead of focusing on relief efforts and how we can help the people who have lost everything, Maddow and the Left are focused on destroying the nuclear industry. The Huffington Post has also joined the effort.

America has been lucky so far. Had Three Mile Island’s containment dome not been built double-strength because it was under an airport landing path, it may not have withstood the 1979 accident’s hydrogen explosion.

But it did. The author almost sounds sorry. It’s more than luck when you purposefully build a containment dome double-strength because of containment concerns and then the technology works. But successful nuclear technology isn’t what interests the Left. Destruction of all nuclear technology in America is more up their alley. And it’s genuinely bizarre how it’s only American technology they don’t like. There was virtually no complaining on the Left when North Korea claimed to want nuclear technology to build “power plants.”

Consider these facts. Obama has gone on record proclaiming to want energy costs to “skyrocket.”

[U]nder my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket…even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I’m capping greenhouse gasses, coal power plants, natural gas…you name it…whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retro-fit their operations.

That will cost money…they will pass that money on to the consumers.

So-called green technology receives huge subsidies, like the Prius, even though most people don’t want one.

News stories about the popularity of these vehicles simply aren’t true. There’s a waiting list for the Prius, but that’s because Toyota will only ship 12,000. This allows Toyota to keep the out-the-door price around $22,000, no haggling please. But Toyota overestimated demand in Canada, where Priuses are sitting on lots. Meanwhile, a phenomenal one-third of Insights remain unsold, despite the fact that April was the biggest sales month in the line’s history (573 vehicles). A persuasive customer can drive one away today from an East Coast dealer today for around $16,000—$5,000 under sticker.

Obama has stopped all drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico and refuses to allow new drilling or the building of oil refineries. The Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu has said he thinks gas prices should hit European levels in order to coax people into buying more “efficient” cars they don’t want.

In 2008, while the head of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, Chu told The Wall Street Journal that energy prices were the lynchpin to an energy overhaul. “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,”

So forgive me if I don’t believe any of this panic and dire predictions when it comes to the way we power our country. There is a movement afoot to squash cheap power in favor of very expensive power that will be inferior and bankrupt most people. If the Left has their way, we’ll be breaking up our furniture and burning it soon to heat our homes. The Left loves to say, “no one wants to live near a nuclear power plant.” But I’d rather live near 50 nuclear power plants than anywhere else run by Democrats.
