The left has finally debunked the myth of Islamic radicalization.

Salon’s Justin Elliott, an Islam apologist, wants to prove America has nothing to fear from Islam or its radical ideology that brings terror to the world. To make his bone-headed case,  Elliott interviewed Faiza Patel, co-director of the Liberty & National Security Program at the Brennan Center for Justice, asking her if Islamic radicalization is real or the invention of hypersensitive, overreacting Americans.  According to Patel, a human rights attorney, the notion that American Muslims are indoctrinating young men to commit terror is nothing more than:

a ‘religious conveyor belt’ theory that says there is a defined path toward terrorism: young Muslim men who are socially or politically alienated become progressively more religious; they come to embrace the use of violence; and eventually they commit a terrorist attack or support an attack in some way. What the NYPD has suggested—and I think the FBI has signed onto this as well—is that there are markers of each phase. These are primarily religious behaviors.  So if a young man stops smoking or stops drinking, maybe that’s a sign that he’s becoming radicalized and is on the path to terrorism. This is a very reductionist understanding of radicalization, and it’s simply not supported by the social science evidence. Last year the Defense Department did a report on Fort Hood that pointed out that violence is notoriously difficult to predict.

Patel’s whitewashing of facts is ludicrous.

First: the Koran calls for jihad against non-Muslims (infidels). Law enforcement is not oversimplifying real threats, rather examining Islamic fact—the movement intentionally radicalizes followers and terror is the outcome.

Second:  The Fort Hood Massacre was not only easy to predict, it had very strong warning signs from Major Nidal Hasan, who threatened senior Army physicians nearly two years before the attacks.  Hasan demanded the military let all Muslim soldiers become conscientious objectors to prevent them from fighting fellow Muslims overseas.  Hasan told Fort Hood if the military did not agree to this, the military would suffer “adverse events.”

Hasan is on record as lecturing Fort Hood psychologists every Wednesday about Islam, warning the military it would receive suicide bomb threats from American Muslim soldiers deployed to fight fellow Muslims in Islamic countries.  The Washington Post reports:

The title of Hasan’s PowerPoint presentation [to military psychologists] was ‘The Koranic World View As It Relates to Muslims in the U.S. Military.’  It consisted of 50 slides.  In one slide, Hasan described the  presentation’s objectives as identifying ‘what the Koran inculcates in the minds of Muslims and the potential implications this may have for the U.S. military.’

The Post article says Hasan’s lectures discussed “offensive jihad,”something Osama bin Laden demands. Also on his slides:

‘If Muslim groups can convince Muslims that they are fighting for God against injustices of the ‘infidels’; ie: enemies of Islam, then Muslims can become a potent adversary; ie: suicide bombing, etc.’ [sic],” and ‘We [Muslims] love death more then [sic] you love life!’

No warning signs?

It seems that, according to Patel, the only active counterterrorism policy would be to look for signs of imminent terrorist activity: actual bombing plans, stockpiling of arms, operational recruiting, incitement to attack. This theory ignores the existence of jihadism in its totality. Why are these Muslims performing these acts? What is their justification? Is it really so difficult to understand? For goodness' sake, the mujahidun themselves are eager to tell us why, and the amount of published material on this is colossal. An in-depth assessment of all U.S. mosques and Muslim organizations should fairly easily distinguish the danger points & individuals based on their statements, sermons, and positions, right?

The notion that we must wait for plots to gel before recognizing and marking potential threats is extremely dangerous, contrary to sound counterterrorist doctrine, and indeed ludicrous. Therefore, I foresee its early adoption by the Obama Administration. After all, we mustn't undermine diversity, multiculturalism and tolerance for minority religions, as the Army COS stated after the Ft Hood atrocity.

So, if there's no process of radicalization of Muslims that can operate as a reliable indicator of who's likely to become a terrorist, do we now just assume that ALL Muslims are radicalized? After all, we know that SOME Muslims are radicalized to the point where they'll commit suicide in order to hurt others, so we can't just ignore radical Islam, can we? So I guess we just have to assume that any Muslim is a potential murderer, eh? I mean, the one thing we DO know is that the vast majority of murderous terrorism today comes from people who worship Allah.

But won't the Left call that profiling?

Funny, I gave up smoking and drinking but it didn't make me any more radical. :)

The problem is Islam itself but as long as our democracies can't discriminate against religion, we will continue to be had by muslims.

The left ignores every warning sign that law enforcement constantly finds–honor killings against American wives and daughters. That is an act of terror that should show us exactly what Islam demands from its followers and many Muslims have tried to escape.

Ask ex-Muslims about Islam, they give exact details of what the religion and its holy book demands, but I guess they are just disgruntled.

How many more warning signs do we need since all the warning sings over the past 30 years against us?

What is most frustrating about all of these Islamic apologists is their inconsistency and their blatant hypocrisy!

Muslims have a book that is available for anyone to open and research the basis for their beliefs and the actions that come from those beliefs. They speak their views openly. They are proud of their violence and oppression. But all of this counts for nothing and is vehemently denied by those who insist on bending over backwards to deny what is obvious to any rational human being.

And yet when it comes to Christianity – which teaches nothing of this sort, and whose followers do not commit such acts on a regular basis, all over the world, in obedience to such teachings – when it comes to Christianity, these same people have no problem demonizing all Christians and claiming Christianity teaches things it does not.

All these years later, we still hear the lie that Tim McVeigh was a Christian. He never even claimed to be! Even if he made such a claim, Christianity neither commands nor condones his behavior. A few abortionists murdered ever couple of years and all Christians are painted with the same brush – despite the fact that all major pro-life organizations denounce such behavior each time it happens, and despite the fact that most pro-life people make it very clear that they do not commit or condone violence.

It's stunning how the Islam-loving Left does not see this. Why are they never called out for it? I think it is a fair question and one that deserves an honest, straightforward answer.

If you judge Christianity simply by reading the Bible, rather than attending service, you would not get through the Old Testament without noticing that the laws are much harsher than our current legal system would allow. Somewhere along the way, Christian leaders and theorists concluded that certain modern laws would suffice – we don't chop off a hand as punishment for theft, for example.

Yes, Islam is particularly offensive when you can read the Koran. But the vast majority of American Muslims are not interested in violence, because they are in fact normal human beings who do not want trouble! I do not believe you could count on more than one hand the number of American mosques in which you would hear services directing violent speech toward fellow Americans or the government.

Christians have Terry Jones in this country… so how popular is he? Any Muslim counterpart is only as popular or effective as his opponents make him. Please consider this, and if you've got any guts, make friends with a Muslim and find out for yourself instead of just reading the damn book.

Islam is no religion as it is a 'Terrorist's Ideology' and when the world wakes up to this fact we may have a chance to stop it from spreading!

Islam means 'submit'. The Quar`an commands ALL Muslims to kill ALL infidels, unless they 'submit' to Allah. Islam is also a quest, califate, to rule the world with the Quar`an and Sharia law!

Muslims have infiltrated our government at the highest level…especially since Obama was voted? to be the 44th President. Muslims are entertained at the White House…Christians are banned everywhere!

Problem is, the mania media! The buggers will NOT cover any story if it is detrimental to their cause of destroying America! Guess what boys and girls? Muslims do NOT care if you are a progressive socialist…'submit'…or what?

Before I rant, please understand that I am most certainly not a lefty.

Do any of you know a single person of Muslim faith? In what percentage of US mosques are they preaching jihad, do you think? I would wager a fraction of one percent. None of the Muslims I know have ever been asked to organize for violence of any kind. Most of the teachings of the religion have to do with self-discipline and family values, not converting the dirty heathen. You also forget that in a peaceful and relatively prosperous environment, people don't want that kind of trouble. So targeting American Muslims is a ridiculous posture, much like TSA screening of millions at airports on the off-chance they will find a single terrorist. I believe the farther you go in antagonizing people, the more violence you create. Treat people like inferiors and they will fight you.

I am not defending this religion. I find much of it offensive, especially regarding treatment of females. However, are not all religions corruptible by their human leaders, who take advantage of impoverished souls? I've seen lots of homegrown "Christianist" violence in this country, but only in poorer places and times. The sole reason that the United States has been targeted by FOREIGN lunatics is our meddling in their politics. Bin Laden always said these were retaliatory actions for our war-making in Iraq, and our military presence in Saudi Arabia (via the seriously wrongheaded U.N. "peacekeeping" process, and our curious friendship with those corrupt Sauds… do you defend the Bush family's relationship with Bin Laden's cousins??)

I do not think Bin Laden was justified, of course. He needs to be killed – what is anyone doing about that?? The point is that dropping bombs and infiltrating governments "over there" has its consequences. So, who benefited from our last 60 years of aggressive foreign policy? From what I can tell, only the political class. The rest of us will have to suffer for their mistakes and evil doings. This is bad enough. Now you want to make war on American soil against fellow Americans you think are organizing some grand religious conspiracy, with little-to-no evidence of any actual organizing or homegrown violence. How could that backfire?
