What the diarist fails to understand is that corporations don’t have the ability to tax people. With the exception of government bailouts, something no one hates more than the Right, private companies obtain wealth through the free market. They don’t steal it. Rather, it is given to them through free exchange. Taxation and other forms of government-mandated wealth redistribution are not free exchange. The choice is not between socialism and plutocracy, as the diarist is arguing. The choice in America today is between socialism and freedom.

To claim that Republicans, even in today’s economic environment, are advancing the cause of  ‘plutocracy’ is utter nonsense. The diarist is referring, of course, to political power. I did some checking on political campaign contributions and found some troubling information, not about Republicans but about Democrats. As it turns out, between 1989 and 2010, the top ten from among the Top All-Time Donors were mostly Democratic, with some fence-sitters. None are Republican. These Democratic political donors have given a total of $285,825,596 during that time period, most of it being union money which comes largely from money extracted forcefully from workers through union dues.

If there is a plutocracy in America, it’s a Democratic one, not a Republican one. The wealth of unions, not corporations, is driving much of the messaging in the political world. What we have in this ignorant lament, then, is run-of-the-mill Daily Kos lunacy on parade.

Endorsed by Barack Obama during his presidential campaign, Daily Kos has earned the distinction of being the sleaziest political blog in America for pushing outrageous falsehoods such as the claim that Pope Benedict XVI was a “Nazi” and that Sarah Palin isn’t really the mother of Trig Palin. Given that accuracy has nothing whatsoever to do with their ability to get traffic, it is in no way surprising to find such a blind rant extolling the virtues of Michael MooreRachel Maddow and Mother Jones as one of their lead articles.

Get Angry or Get Eaten? Look in the mirror, Daily Kos. You have a big glob of hypocrisy stuck in your teeth.
