Far-left agitprop filmmaker Michael Moore sure resembled an old-style Red agitator the other day in Madison, Wisconsin. Sounding much like Charlie Sheen nowadays, Moore invited his fellow radicals to join him in a lovely stroll through La La Land.
“America is not broke,” Moore was quoted saying. “The country is awash in wealth and cash … It has been transferred in the greatest heist in history from the workers and consumers to the banks and the portfolios of the uber-rich.” Apparently in Moore’s world the U.S. doesn’t have a $14 trillion-plus national debt and unfunded entitlement obligations that stretch all the way to the edge of the galaxy and back.
Moore said that despite the Wall Street bailouts in 2008, “millions lost their jobs anyway, and millions lost their homes … but there was no revolt … until now,” he said. “On Wisconsin!”
Except that the political dispute in Wisconsin doesn’t have anything to do with bailouts or corporate America. It’s about the overprivileged brats known as public sector union members refusing to tighten their belts even the tiniest little bit.
Wisconsin demonstrators against Gov. Scott Walker’s desperately needed austerity measures have “aroused a sleeping giant” in a national struggle for workers’ rights, Moore bloviated before a few thousand helpless audience members. “Right now the Earth is shaking and the ground is shifting under the feet of those who are in charge.”
Yes — the Earth is shaking but not for the reasons Moore provides. The political environment is shifting as the public becomes increasingly angry with spendthrift politicians like President Obama and the gutless Republican politicians in Washington, D.C. who refuse to stand up to them.
“America is not broke … Wisconsin is not broke,” Moore said. “The only thing that’s broke is the moral compass of the rulers.”
In a final act of denial, Moore told the gathered union members and leftists to fight on. “You are not alone,” he said. “America is with you.”
Yup, Moore’s Charlie Sheen in a baseball cap.
