In December, the King County Metro Transit Authority in Seattle was scheduled to post advertisements on their buses which showed Palestinian children looking dolefully at some bombed buildings with the caption: Israeli War Crimes-Your Tax Dollars At Work. Due to the strenuous efforts of the David Horowitz Freedom Center, Act For America, Stand With Us, the local Jewish Federation, Atlas Shrugs and other national groups the Transit Authority decided not to accept the advertisements and informed the Israel-bashing group, the Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign, who had sponsored them.
In late January, the ACLU of Washington filed suit on behalf of the Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign seeking a preliminary injunction to uphold the Campaign’s free speech rights to publish a paid bus advertisement expressing its views on the actions of the Israeli government. Filed in US District Court in Seattle, the lawsuit says that King County’s refusal to allow the advertisement on Metro buses violated the Campaign’s First Amendment rights.
It is not surprising that the ACLU has now become an arm of an Islamic supremacist pressure group but it is disappointing that they and their client did not pay more attention to the testimony given by Colonel Kemp before the U.N. Human Rights Council shortly after the end of Operation Cast Lead:
“I am the former commander of the British forces in Afghanistan. I served with NATO and the United Nations; commanded troops in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Macedonia; and participated in the Gulf War. I spent considerable time in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, and worked on international terrorism for the UK Government’s Joint Intelligence Committee.
Mr. President, based on my knowledge and experience, I can say this: During Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli Defense Forces did more to safeguard the rights of civilians in a combat zone than any other army in the history of warfare. Israel did so while facing an enemy that deliberately positioned its military capability behind the human shield of the civilian population.”
The Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign would be better off making the American public aware that $3.9 billion of their tax dollars are going to support the Palestinian Authority, which is just the PLO masquerading as a government incase nobody has noticed and which continues to teach Jew-hatred and hatred of America and the West in its schools. It incites violence against Jews, praises suicide bombers, and lionizes murdering terrorists by naming public streets, squares and sports arenas after them.
This is not indicative of a people upon whose good intentions one can rely. Self-defense is not a war crime but Hamas’ deliberate and constant shelling of Israeli civilians for over five years constitutes just such a crime. The late Senator Moynihan once noted that people are entitled to their own opinions but they are not entitled to their own facts. The facts and the evidence force us to believe that it is the Palestinians and their Muslim comrades-in-arms who are the war criminals.
As for the ACLU, they should inform their client that as far back as 1919 the Supreme Court handed down a decision that false statements which could inflict harm on others were not protected as “free speech” under the Constitution.
