In an interview she readily admits that she did the things in which she’s accused. She defends herself by stating that her father, the children’s grandfather, lives in the district she enrolled them in and they live with him part time.
The school in the district they are supposed to go to is a typical inner city school – crappy teachers and infested with violence. All she wanted was to give her kids a better education which no one, including school officials, disputes.
Despite her desires for a better life for her kids the school district says her actions were against the law. According to school officials:
“Those dollars need to stay home with our students”, school district officials said.
I kind of have to agree with the school officials. If someone does the crime they should be prepared to do the time. Though others in that districted were caught, paid restitution and went on their way, the mother in this story fought the district and lost. She battled school officials, now has a criminal record, and is admirably owning her mistakes, sucking it up and receiving her punishment like an adult.
However, my question is this: what if this mother and her kids were illegal immigrants?
Hooo boy. I’m certain this question will open up a whole lot of cans of worms. It’s well known that the vast majority of educators and academics in this country are Left-wing leaners and learners. So, it’ll come as no surprise when one hears that, in response to Arizona’s anti-illegal-immigration laws, the National Educational Association’s (NEA) and it’s president, Dennis Van Roekel, put out an official statement statement in April of last year condemning the law:
“The new law could adversely impact children. The right of undocumented immigrant children to a K-12 public education has long been protected. This legislation may be the start of a very slippery slope. So what’s next?”
Apparently, what’s next is that hard working, low income and dedicated minority single mothers are sent to prison, put on probation and fined obscene amounts of money while illegal (sorry… “undocumented”) immigrants are endorsed by the NEA and given a free ride for doing the exact same thing. Please excuse my outburst but… WTF?!
Where is Michelle Obama and her PR people in all of this? Isn’t she supposed to be sitting with this woman’s kids and having a pow wow about education and taking things you aren’t entitled to?
Apparently, the new trend on the Left is supporting illegal immigrants no matter how hypocritical it makes you look. In the past, the Left has stuck it’s neck out to bat for minorities regardless of whether they’re right or wrong. But, this situation represents the essence of progressivism – at least that’s how progressives in this country practice it. Neophilia – tossing aside the old and being addicted to “the new”. Apparently, poor, single, black mothers aren’t trendy anymore. Illegal immigrants are “the new black”. No pun intended.
