10. Columbine

Two terribly disturbed boys walked into their school and killed 13 people and injured 21. This heinous act caused the usual outrage at guns. Not at negligent parenting, psychologists who over-prescribe dangerous drugs or a negligent justice system that had the two in their sights but did nothing to stop them. No! According to the Left, it was the guns. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold had detailed the building of bombs, the collection of illegal weapons and plans to kill their friends on a website. Authorities did nothing but put them in anger management classes and only after they were caught stealing. They got out  early for “good behavior,” which Harris admitted on his website he faked. Shortly after their stint in anger management, they murdered their classmates. Every weapon they had in their possession was acquired illegally. New gun laws would not have stopped them from obtaining the weapons. And yet, the Left went crazy and insisted on using the tragedy to impose new gun laws on Americans, and ridicule and defame Charleton Heston.

In 2000, federal and state legislations were introduced that would require safety locks on firearms as well as ban the importation of high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Michael Moore, famed faux-documentary film director, took the opportunity to make millions of dollars in the capitalist system he so hates. Bowling for Columbine became the rallying cry for all on the Left to point to and say “See? It’s all their fault, those evil gun nuts!” The only problem was, the “documentary” had more fiction than your average Hollywood blockbuster.

Moore made it seem that Charleton Heston gave his famous “cold dead hands” speech in Denver at the NRA yearly convention right after Columbine. The truth is, it was given a whole year later in Charlotte North Carolina. The speech is a great one for us to remember in light of the recent events and the calls for more gun controls on law abiding citizens that have no hope of stopping criminals. The Second Amendment has nothing to do with madmen and everything to do with individual freedom. We do not (should not) accept the premise that the Second Amendment has anything to do with criminal action.
