Just when you think left-wing feminists have gone so far over the top they can’t possibly push the sexual freedom envelope any further, they tear it open and stuff it with more insanity.  This time FemiNazis are asking if polygamy should remain outlawed, because, if legalized, it would be another way for women to freely express themselves sexually and provide more equal opportunity sex for women.

Feminists are well aware underage marriages exist inside fundamentalist polygamist sects in America, as well as Canada.  They admit underage girls are forced into polygamous marriages, some of which involve incest and child rape, but these feminists ask, since not all adult women complain about polygamous marriage, and not all say they are abused, why shouldn’t polygamy laws be reexamined in the interest of religious and sexual freedom?

Well, why not just legalize rape for violent male criminals so they have equal opportunity sex?  If all rape victims aren’t coming forward to complain, maybe those not filing charges against rapists actually consider rape nothing more than rough sex.

Left-wing feminists just can’t seem to get enough sexual freedom. So now they must fight for polygamy rights.

Ms. Magazine’s Jessica Mack asks “is polygamy inherently bad for women?”:

The practice of taking numerous spouses, in and of itself, doesn’t seem to be the root cause of the problem. After all, there are clear examples of polyandry (in which one woman has several husbands, as opposed to polygyny, with one man and several women), but abuse and oppression of men in these cases rarely, if ever, comes up. Perhaps instead, the problem with polygamy (or, really, polygyny) is that the legal structure of marriage codifies an underlying discrimination against women.  Reports from polygamous communities often point to early and forced marriage, in which the institution of marriage serves as both a shield for, and weapon of, sexist behavior. Also, polygamy is often practiced secretively and in cloistered religious communities that exist quite literally outside the norms of broader society. This situation can create impunity for those men who are abusing women.

Just because women married to multiple husbands are not physically abusing men, rather enjoying multiple sex partners, does not make Jessica Mack’s argument hold. This argument basically says women with multiple husbands have the sexual freedom of single women along with the benefits of men paying their way.  They have equal opportunity sex. This is what Mack–and other radical leftist feminists who consider polygamy harmless–is really pulling for.

Mack is actually defending polygamy, using the women’s sexual freedom excuse: the practice should be a sexual right, but it is being stolen from women!  If only polygamy were legalized in Western countries like the United States and Canada, where the British Columbia Supreme Court is reviewing their polygamy laws to see if the Canadian outlawing of polygamy is violating religious freedom, women would be freer sexually.  Further, Mack says if polygamy were legal, polygamist men would not abuse their many wives, some of whom are children.

That’s like saying, “alcohol is legal, so no one will ever get drunk by consuming liquor, and those who do will never get behind the wheel and kill other drivers.”  Legalizing something with the potential for danger does not make it safe.
