Chris Matthews is just sure that if he yells loud enough, his fantasies will come true.
While ridiculing others for lack of historical, geographical or scientific knowledge, Chris reveals himself to be nearly illiterate on all 3 counts.
- Wondered why “frogmen” like “in Captain Nemo” didn’t plug the BP oil spill at twice the depth that would crush a nuclear submarine,
- Insisted that Redcoats were tried in an American civil court for the Boston Massacre when Massachusetts was still a British colony and of course John Adams was practicing in a BRITISH court,
- That the 14th Amendment provision for birth citizenship was “how it’s always been.”
- And this week, in the wake of the Tuscon shootings, he baldly stated that no country in the world has had as many assassinations of its “top leaders” than the United States– including countries in Africa!
Matthews ridiculed Tea Party Nation founder Judson Philips for being “shocked” at the shootings in Tuscon this weekend that killed Judge John Roll and others, and wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords; and acted as though this were an every day occurrence. Here’s a sample:
MATTHEWS: We’ve certainly grown up as you have and I have in this country… no country in the world has not had as many leaders assassinated. We had a period where people were getting killed all over the place. We had Ronald Reagan almost killed, except he got to the hospital within three minutes. Ford shot at twice. Truman almost killed by Puerto Rican nationalist. The mayor of Chicago got hit. Roosevelt got shot in the chest. I don’t know how you haven’t noticed it.
PHILLIPS: You think about it. In this generation —
MATTHEWS: Oh, I’ve been thinking about it. Neither a country in the world with a list like that. Mexico, Canada. Not a country in in world that’s had the assassination. Make a list.
PHILLIPS: I disagree.
MATTHEWS: You disagree with WHAT part of what I said?
PHILLIPS: That’s there not another country in the world —
MATTHEWS: Name ONE! Assassination of its leaders!
Of course, Phillips did not come prepared to counter such a ridiculous and unexpected assertion. He did not bring with him the mathematical equations to prove the earth is a sphere, either.
Among the “top leaders” Matthews cited were Huey Long, and his list went back to James Garfield. He also bizarrely included Malcolm X– why not Elijah Mohammed? Hmmm?
Let’s point out one major difference between the United States and just about every other country in the world– civilized or uncivilized: At no time in our history as the government been changed through assassination. We have had leaders succeeded after assassination— but not BY their assassins!
But if Huey Long qualifies as a “top leader,” or Bobby Kennedy, who after all was just a United States Senator at the time he was gunned down by a jihadist, then Mexico and Columbia have had more officials assassinated in the last generation than the United States in it whole history.
The list of African nations whose leadership has been succeeded by the people who murdered them would be a bit long.
Then lets talk Cuba. My guess is that as many high ranking leaders were killed over the course of a couple of years by a guy that Chris doesn’t mind seeing on a tee shirt on his college tours, than have been killed in all of American history.
Chris thought he was smart because he could list just about every politician in American history who has been murdered.
The ironic thing is the fact that he can, undermines his very premise. But irony pretty much bounces off Chris’s considerable forehead.
With his level of hysteria, Chris is starting to resemble this guy:
Or, if you prefer it set to music, in a video seen by approximately 130 times as many people as tune into Hardball on a nightly basis:
