Son of Traitors Defends Julian Assange

Imagine you’re a little boy. Your parents are suddenly taken away from you. You don’t really understand what’s going on. Your parents are convicted of spying for the enemy and sentenced to death. You visit your parents one last time to say goodbye and then before you know it they’re gone forever. You’re an orphan. You go through life defending your parents countless times over decades only to learn from a trust family friend that yes, they did it (or at least your father did it for sure).

It’s easy to see why Robert Meeropol, son of communist spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, might be angry, and it’s hard not to feel sorry for him.

But that does not excuse Meeropol, a longtime communist sympathizer, from coming to the aid of another enemy of the United States, anti-American activist Julian Assange of WikiLeaks infamy.

In a vapid op-ed titled, “My Parents Were Executed Under the Unconstitutional Espionage Act — Here’s Why We Must Fight to Protect Julian Assange,” Meeropol argues, amazingly enough, not that Assange is innocent of crimes against the United States, but that a law used to prosecute his parents may be —gasp!— used to prosecute Assange.

Just as in my parents’ case, the prosecutors could seek to bully some involved into ratting out others, in return for more favorable treatment. This divide and conquer approach would turn individuals against each other, sow the seeds of distrust within the broader community, and intimidate others into quiescence

And this is different from any other conspiracy investigation/prosecution how exactly? As far as Meeropol is concerned, the authorities don’t even have the right to investigate people like Assange. Do you think this is because, like Meeropol, Assange hates America and wants its government overthrown?

As I wrote a few days ago, ACORN founder Wade Rathke feels the same about Assange. This is not surprising because until its recent purported dissolution, ACORN was America’s largest urban terrorist organization. Rathke, just like his inspiration Saul Alinsky, supports using extreme methods up to and including violence in order to achieve his goals. Assange hasn’t expressed support for using violence himself from what I can tell, but he doesn’t mind if American servicemen and women are killed or maimed as a result of his disclosure of secret U.S. military documents.

On Christmas Day Rathke published a blog post on his website urging people to give money to WikiLeaks. I won’t repeat his money-laundering instructions here, but he explains how to get money to the Assange group.

Assange, Rathke, and Meeropol are soulmates.
