4. Feminism
The idea that women should have rights, that they should be treated with respect and those who abuse or exploit women should be marginalized is essentially a conservative one. Western tradition is one that has always respected strong women, like the ferocious Celtic warrior queen Boudicca or America’s own Laura “Della Rose” Bullion who was something of an auxiliary member of The Wild Bunch. Our ancient legends tell the tales of women who eclipse even the most lauded so-called feminist of today like the brave but evil Freydis of the Vinland Sagas, who, heavy with child, charged into a group of enemies and put on a display so fearsome she drove them away, or Sojourner Truth who escaped slavery in the south only to risk death dozens of more times to help rescue other black slaves. Our history is full of women who were queens, warriors, brigands, leaders and heroes.
But we value no less those women who were wives and mothers. We honor those women who keep our society running by caring for the homesteads, raising children and tending to domestic economies, which until late in the 20th century was no easy feat as any farmer’s wife can tell you!
We have allowed Marxism to dictate what it is to be “feminist” and what our own history has been. There is no society that has granted women more autonomy than Western civilization. But the Left uses “feminism” to attack the West by spreading the lie that we somehow treated women worse than we actually did. This would simply be nonsense if they hadn’t successfully convinced everyone, including us, that this is so.
Social conservatives in particular, but this is true of the Right in general, have accepted the argument that we do oppress women and now tend to argue with the so-called feminists that we have good reason to do so. That this strategy is doomed to failure should be obvious to anyone who doesn’t sign their Internet comments with not so thinly veiled phallic references (“stogie chomper,” for example) that seem to indicate sexual dysfunction on a grand scale. The West, and especially America, has done more to liberate women worldwide than Gloria Steinem could do in a thousand lifetimes and we should celebrate that.
Instead we have become a reflexive anti-feminist echo chamber increasingly given to defending depravity, like date rape. We have adopted the roles leftist feminists have written for us, a howling mob of potential rapists who seek to re-victimize women who have been violated. The Left wants women to be victimized so it disarms them and tells them that rapists are not really responsible for their actions — they are products of “rape culture” who need to be re-educated. And our argument against this is to defend rapists like Julian Assange?
We conservatives know that the key to stopping women from being victimized is by arming them, that the key to stopping rapists lies in the gallows. We know that you never have the right to abuse and exploit women, because it’s immoral. We know that each individual, regardless of race or gender, has worth and must be judged on his or her own merits. So why are we afraid to claim the mantle of feminism back from those who use it to break down society from within?
Next: We have to stop associating with neo-confederates and ‘Southern Nationalists’.
