6. Abolitionism

There are few sins greater than slavery, yet people of faith in America rarely take notice of the fact that slavery is rampant both here and abroad. In America, where we were torn asunder in the fight to free the oppressed, we now have sexual slavery rings in every city, and our companies openly profit from them. Village Voice Media is in the process of being sued by a girl who was forced into prostitution and trafficked via their Backpage Web site. The mother of the victim, who was 14 at the time, found the ads and rescued her daughter only to find there were no resources in her area for former child sex slaves.

A recent local report from Arizona described a situation where hundreds, if not thousands of sex slaves were being forced into prostitution by gangs in the area. The juvenile victims of the sex slave trade there averaged 14.8 years old, and the adult victims fall through the cracks as many are illegal immigrants. Here, in our own country, there are hundreds of thousands of women and children being raped over and over again by “johns” who know that they are being held against their will.

And where are the social conservatives?

America is a paradise compared to Africa, where centuries of Arab Muslim racism was largely responsible for the slave trade the West is often still attacked for, and the enslavement of black Africans by Arab or Arabized Muslims remains a main driver in many of today’s atrocities.

The Left has been an utter failure in respect to this issue, using the cover of “multiculturalism” to absolve themselves of their moral responsibility to fight against modern day Muslim slavery. They have smeared calls for a new abolition movement as Western imperialism. Left-leaning urban areas are the main consumers of sex slaves and the average leftist pretends that calls for an end to companies profiting from sexual slavery are some sort of puritan attack on women’s sexual autonomy. They have taken control of the narrative to make this an argument about the politics of sex.

But this is a moral issue not a political one. Slavery is evil. The thought of women and children in our own country being sold as sex slaves should disgust any person with a functioning moral compass. Groups like Streetlight are struggling to open safe houses for these victims and social conservatives need to step up and pitch in, just as they did in the 1800s during the abolition movement. We need to show Americans that it is not acceptable to ignore the suffering of these women and we can do that joining the campaign to eradicate sexual slavery.
