It was a great year for us at NewsReal Blog. The publication grew steadily, new features emerged, exciting writers joined the team, and we even had some big stories. As 2010 comes to a close it’s worth looking back at some of NRB‘s most significant hits.

This isn’t an exact listing of the 10 standard posts that got the most traffic. Sometimes fairly trivial, throwaway posts hit it big or went viral. Other times there were two similar posts that both did well enough to make it into the top 10. For this list I’ve selected 10 posts that all did well, were about subjects that matter, and I have something to say about them now.

10. January 19: Losing it Over Massachusetts : Meltdown with Keith Olbermann Part 26 by David Forsmark

Being lectured to by Keith Olbermann about good taste and discretion on political rhetoric is like…

Well, I’m at a loss.  I don’t think there IS anything quite like being lectured on political decorum by the most hateful host on cable TV.

One of the reasons may be that Keith is making this stuff up. The lowest blow of the night came when Keith tried to play video that “proved” Brown advocated sexual violence against Coakley.

This installment in David Forsmark’s “Meltdown with Keith Olbermann” series was one of the most popular. In it Forsmark fisks Olbermann’s unhinged smears of Scott Brown. Like this one:

In short, in Scott Brown we have an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, Tea Bagging supporter of violence against women, and against politicians with whom he disagrees.  In any other time in our history, this man would have been laughed off the stage as an unqualified and a disaster in the making by the most conservative of conservatives.  Instead, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is close to sending this bad joke to the Senate of the United States.

It’s kind of ironic given the current backlash Olby finds himself in over Julian Assange, alleged rapist.

Forsmark has been one of NRB’s most talented, important contributors since starting in August 0f 2009. Check out his archive of posts here.
