To describe this problem as one of “liberal bias” or a “lack of balance” is to misrepresent and trivialize it. All faculty, whatever their point of view, have intellectual biases and a right to express them. But the same right comes with an important and long recognized caveat: Professors have an obligation to be professional in their instruction. They are expected to refrain from imposing their personal views on students through the authority they exercise in the classroom, or through the design of the course, or through their power over student grades; and they should not represent mere opinion as scientific fact.

Such an excellent post.

More examples of the destruction inside the academy are 1) Gang of 88 member Karla FC Holloway of Duke University who can usually be found obsessing about race/class/gender and the "othered" among us was appointed to a faculty position at Duke's law school despite the fact that she has no juris doctorate; 2) fellow Duke Gang of 88 member Cathy Davidson was just nominated by Obama as a member of the National Council on the Humanities. Her latest claim to fame is that she thinks students should grade themselves(!); and last but not least 3) the absurd case of Augusta State University (ASU) graduate student Jennifer Keeton. What will be her fate?

The radical element of the academy has taken over and basic rights that should be a given require a constant fight.

Thanks for this report. Great comment by SHmuelHaLevi including how to fix the problem. The financial crisis of our state governments are causing university funding cuts. At the same time, the crisis in education is forcing a re-evaluation of why our students are failing academically. The time seems right to contact state politicians and demand they hold the colleges accountable for wasting taxpayer money on a political agenda. We must seize the moment to return the principles of true education.

Ah! The ole "academic freedom" thing... The trash has done it also here.
I am a Senior-Fellow Engineer and Professor and seen it all growing unchecked, by us all...
All of which brings me to my Gaucho background. You may ask me how... one may fix the problem.
This way.
I participated as a young "Gauchito" in the many work assignements at the Ranch and learnt how to attend to one of the most horrible parasites that attack cattle. The horrors are maggots that feed on the wounds of the poor animals. We had to laso the infected animals and remove the maggots and then disinfect the wound. Regretfully the wound would be always seen even after the parasites were destroyed and the wound healed.
We used a pair of "maggot sticks" to extract the monsters and a large fire. The removed items were disposed in that fashion.
Naturally this is just a parabole but basically the infestation of the students bodies by the treasonous "professors", must be addressed without being tentative if we expect to survive.
