In a typical loud monologue about the Republicans’ insistence on not raising taxes in a recession (before an interview with “firebrand Independent” (i.e. socialist) Senator Bernie Sanders), Ed Sgt. Schultz declared:

SCHULTZ:   They’ve [Republicans] been on an economic jihad…

And he didn’t say, “Not that there’s anything wrong with that.”

Isn’t this the network that created the “Islamophobia” logo?  Or was Schultz being complimentary?  Maybe he really meant to say:

“The Republicans are on a journey to make the world better, a struggle for a noble cause to promote peace harmony and justice.”

At least that’s what Wikipedia says “jihad” can mean. But that’s unlikely.  Here is more context:

SCHULTZ: You can‘t negotiate with terrorists or Republicans these days.  They‘ve been on an economic jihad against the middle class for decades, and they‘re determined to blow up any vote the Democrats put on the table.

Interesting.  When you talk about jihad in the context of actual terrorism, it’s “Islamophobic.”  If you call liberals out for their sympathy to jihadists, that’s “McCarthyism.”

But if you call Republicans playing hardball politics “hostage” takers and social conservatives “the Taliban” or “mullahs,” then that’s just a good use of metaphor.

On the bright side, it’s almost heartening to see someone on MSNBC use “jihad” in a negative context that reflects the word’s actual meaning.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the protest from CAIR.  They know who their friends are.
