Wikileaks brings you tabloid gossip; nothing special

Last week, the United States warned Wikileaks and several countries not to publish thousands of classified diplomatic documents. It was said publication of these documents would be dangerous and could cost lives. This seems strongly put: Some documents are at best embarrassing, while the rest contains nothing new nor sinister. Wikileaks latest scoop reminds me of the gossip columns in the average tabloid: It’s mostly a bunch of juicy but highly irrelevant and trivial information.

Wikileaks is a prime example of a Western hypocritical organization: Yelling professionally at the Imperialistic Satan, pretending that the U.S. controls the world by means of deceit and oppression. Nothing seems further from the truth. What the quarter of a million documents show, is that the U.S. has an excellent diplomatic apparatus. Embassies work just fine. Everyday they send correct and reliable information to Washington. We read that Berlusconi is a vain idiot, Putin has got some rather dubious friends, Sarkozy is grumpy, Karzai has a mental defect and Merkel is risk-avoiding. This is not a diplomatic nightmare, it is the truth.

The documents also state that Saudi Arabia still plays an obscure double role and continues to finance Al Qaeda. No, seriously!? Everyone who doesn’t think Arabs are morally superior (and among leftists, there are few), knows that the Saudi royal family has been handing out money to Islamic terrorists since the dawn of civilization. What is interesting, by the way, is that the U.S. and South Korea are considering scenarios concerning North Korea. But even these plans are not highly unexpected or disturbing in any way whatsoever.

I feel sorry for Wikileaks. The people behind it hoped that with these diplomatic documents, they could prove consipracy after conspiracy. They hoped to find that U.S. scientists virtually invented Aids and brought it to Africa. Or that the U.S. secretly kills millions of Muslims by throwing them out of airplanes, controls all the governments in the world, clubs baby seals to death, stones innocent women to death or tests nuclear devices behind the moon. Alas, alas, Wikileaks has brought us nothing much but ordinary gossip. That’s all.

As an aside, it would be nice if these Wikileaks hypocrites had the guts to publish what the real villain-states are hiding.
