The Left has been craving its Fox scalp for a long time now. The victories of the Beck/Breitbart axis of the fighting wing of the Conservative Movement have just been too painful to bear.

And now they’ve finally found it in the best possible place.

Yes, absolutely, Fox should fire Judge Andrew Napolitano for his 9/11 Trutherism. They should have fired him a very long time ago.

From Media Matters:

JONES: OK finally, man because I’ve never raised this with you, because it’s a subject I just leave alone with folks because I don’t want to cause people problems. But you brought it up with Geraldo Rivera, who says he is concerned about building 7, and I want to put the question you put to him to you. I mean, what do you think of Geraldo Rivera coming out — what do you think of 7?

NAPOLITANO: It’s hard for me to believe that it came down by itself. I was gratified to see Geraldo Rivera investigating it. I am gratified to see that people across the board are interested.

I think twenty years from now, people will look at 9-11 the way we look at the assassination of JFK today. It couldn’t possibly have been done the way the government told us.

JONES: Well, I want to tell you this. You’ve got a lot of courage, Judge, and so does Geraldo Rivera. I don’t agree with him on some of his more liberal political views, but I do resonate with his courage, and I resonate with yours, and I already had the highest respect for you, but now the thermometer just broke. And the mercury — geysering out of it right now. Judge, you are a great American, and I just can’t wait till your show is number one on Fox Business, when you’re on regular Fox full time, because no army can stop an idea whose time has come.

None of this should come as any surprise to anyone even halfway educated on just who Napolitano is and with which birds he flocks.

Just look at who wrote the foreword to his last book:

Yes, that’s why on all matters foreign policy related “The Judge” might as well be Glenn Greenwald or any other pro-Islam leftist just laying out the red carpet and eagerly awaiting dhimmitude. These are not ideas that conservatives should be going for bat for right now. Yes, by all means, it’s time to *cough* agree with Media Matters about something. Fire The Judge.

So in other words, right now the Left is sabotaging their best opportunity to get their foreign policy ideas articulated to conservatives.

What are we to take from this particular episode? Is the Left just being stupid and not realizing that they’re torpedoing someone who’s actually serving their interests? Are they too focused on just wounding Fox that they’re willing to take the collateral damage?

No, this is just one more reflection of something that Stanley Kurtz lays out convincingly in Radical-In-Chief. The community-organizing, Alinskite Left of Obama taught its adherents to eschew the social issues and foreign policy. Don’t rock the boat too much there. Just focus on winning the fight on economics, on shifting the country toward socialism. That describes the Obama administration to a T — and the Left as a whole for the past few years. With the controversies of the Iraq war more deeply in the background the big government objectives have been the animating emotion on the Left.

So Napolitano’s redeeming factors in the eyes of the Left in no way outweigh the utility of knocking out one more cog in the Fox News machine.
