Media Matters, a leftist media “watchdog” group heavily funded by multi-billionaire George Soros, is whitewashing Soros’ admitted role in the confiscation of Jewish property during the Holocaust while smearing Glenn Beck. One possible explanation for Soros’ lack of remorse is that he seems to embrace the same brand of “justice” that we find in the Alinskyite community organizing funded by the Catholic Campaign for Human Development [CCHD], like the smearing of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the entire Tea Party movement. Here’s a look at the charges against Beck and an examination of Soros’ explanation for having ‘no sense of guilt’ for his role in the confiscation of Jewish property.
For the record, I am not a regular Glenn Beck viewer. I have watched him occasionally when my readers and friends have asked me to watch for specific reasons, but though I consider him to be an asset to the political community, I am not really a big fan. Nevertheless, I now rise to his defense for several reasons.

First, the Holocaust of European Jews is something I am personally determined to  “Never Forget“, so I have studied it extensively. Secondly, it is a pet peeve of mine to see people smeared wrongly as Glenn Beck most certainly has been in this instance. Finally, there is an intriguing and troubling philosophical component in this story. I couldn’t help but notice that the characterization Soros offered of his role in the Holocaust is eerily reminiscent of the flawed transformative justice (collective blame and collective guilt) advanced by the Left.

As the Zionist Organization of America [ZOA] has explained thoroughly, Glenn Beck has shown no anti-Semitism and is, in fact, “a great supporter of Israel and the Jewish people.” Media Matters responded to the ZOA press release by ignoring a long list of Soros’ anti-Semitic quotes, addressing one quote in particular and claiming that Beck and ZOA intentionally left out a remark. Media Matters falsely characterizes the “cropped” remark as a qualifying remark; that it somehow erases, or disqualifies, everything else that Soros said previous to that remark. Rather than qualifying the earlier remarks, it appears that the “cropped” remark offers clarity regarding Soros’ claim that he bears no individual guilt. There is only “collective” culpability, as it were.

Below is George Soros’ statement, as provided by Media Matters, from his 1998 60 Minutes interview with Steve Kroft. The portion that Media Matters claims was intentionally left out by Beck and ZOA is emphasized in bold.

KROFT: My understanding is that you went out with this protector of yours who swore that you were his adopted godson.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. Yes.

KROFT: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. That’s right. Yes.
