Happy Meals are now illegal in San Francisco.

San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors voted 8-3 last week to protect defenseless children from greedy corporate junk food dealers (e.g., McDonald’s) who lure their young prey into a life of unhealthy food addiction by dangling tantalizing free toys in front of them.  According to the author of the IBD article “Food Justice in Frisco,” this is just another example of the

. . . machinery of the state mobilizing to save us all from ourselves and the economic choices we make.

I disagree.

I admit to a deep cynicism and an even deeper suspicion of the motives that drive such movements.  I don’t think it has anything to do with “Food Justice,” just as Cap and Trade has absolutely nothing to do with saving the planet from anthropogenic global warming.  That doesn’t mean there are no True Believers.  I am certain there are boatloads of useful idiots who truly believe that McDonald’s and other fast food conglomerates actively work toward addicting children to their products in a manner similar to eeeeeee-vil tobacco companies (e.g., “Joe the Camel.”)  But the true believers of the Food Justice movement are just being used to achieve the desired end of Wealth Redistribution.  That’s the end game here.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can so gleefully surrender their precious liberties for some amorphous “greater good.”  I seriously doubt whether the true believers in the faux Food Justice movement would even take offense to being used in such a deceitful manner.  The methods that leftists use to achieve their goals differ slightly from group to group, but the ends are very much the same.  It all boils down to money.  YOUR money.

Never underestimate the ingenuity of government bureaucrats and politicians when it comes to devising new schemes to separate you from your income.
