Attention, taxpayers: last week, your hard-earned money paid for little Johnny and Jane College Kid to learn about the sexuality of the environmentalism movement.  Aren’t you proud of what your children are learning in college?

Here’s some background about me: I’m a proud graduate of Ohio University, nestled in the Appalachian Mountain region of Ohio.  Going to Bobcats games on Saturday… hanging out on Court Street on weekend nights… what a time those days were.

However, there’s one aspect of OU that I don’t miss: the stifling progressive inanity that pervades the Athens air like a San Francisco summer smog—two parts Democratic Party machine politics, one part youthful ignorance of reality, and one part student-activist radicalism.

From “whackadoodle” feminists comparing student-run pop-culture magazines to the Coming of the Fourth Reich, to pseudo-Black Pantherettes claiming that urban decay is caused by white people, and proud terrorist-supporting professors, Ohio University more than earns its moniker of the “People’s Republic of Athens.”

That’s why I wasn’t surprised when I heard that the “Ohio University Department of Sustainability” was promoting an art exhibit entitled “Ecosexuals in Love: Our PollenAmorous Relationship with the Earth, Sky, and Sea.” Err, what?

The two artists, California natives Beth Stephens and Annie Sprinkle, explain that their exhibit is about exploring their “very sensual relationship with the Earth… You can lie in the field naked in the sunshine, and that’s all you really need.”  Stephens is an art professor at University of California-Santa Cruz.

Sprinkle, who claims to be the world’s first adult film actress to hold a Ph. D., adds that their artwork was inspired by the many “Earth-related fetishes like skinny-dipping, being covered in dirt, and butterflies.”

On Saturday, Sprinkle and Stephens held what they termed a “wedding,” in which they “married” the Appalachian Mountains in Ohio University’s Galbreath Chapel, an otherwise sacred place where other, less insane couples have normal, less insane weddings.  Sprinkle and Stephens claim to be also “married” to the elements of sky, sea, and the Moon.

It is unknown what will happen now that Sprinkle and Stephens have married physical avatars of Water, Earth, Soul, and Sky, but I suspect that it may lead to the summoning of Captain Planet.  Or possibly Godzilla.

“Eco-sexuality” is just another data point in the trend-line of progressive silliness in academia, nationwide.  Tacit—and sometimes, open—campus support of terrorism, indoctrinating professors, administrative support for progressive agendas, and silly, unproductive programs such as the one put on Sprinkle and Stephens, take place in colleges and universities across the nation every day.

I often joke about “surviving” my experiences with progressive academia, but in truth, my time in “the camps” strengthened my belief in conservatism’s superiority.  Like a sword tempered by the fire, conservative students in academia often emerge from college stronger and better equipped to argue with progressives.

It’s up to us to empower and encourage the next generation of conservatism to fight back and speak out against their universities’ progressive excesses, such as Ohio University’s “Ecosexuals In Love” program, instead of just hunkering down and trying to get by without incident.
