I gor told this week by someone who has never been to Europe that their economy and healthcare is an example to America. When I told her that their economy was in the toilet, she told me it was nonsense. I then asked her why she would bring up Europe if she has never been there. It did not go well. So sad because once upon a time she was fun before proving how humanistic she is.

Hmm guess I'm a little late to the party, but it seems to me that the logical fallacy committed by the author, and many of the comment writers is that all liberals engage in these practices while all conservatives use logic and reasoning to overwhelm their opponents. Having just engaged in an actual FB debate with an actual conservative, and attempted to use facts, statistics, and logical reasoning, and was met with a group of conservative group-thinkers who basically every time I made a post called me names, I'm not sure your premise is correct. Stupid people exist in every group, and being smug about "winning" against them doesn't really win you any points.

Lower taxes=less efficient government + deficits+ less spending on infrastructure. More jobs, well that has never really materialized in the past 8 years from private sector "innovation" according to the Armed Forces Journal of the United States in March 2009 (link :http://www.armedforcesjournal.com/2009/03/3922551/) most job growth has been due to the government. This produces a bad economy, and conservatives always try and contract things out. That produces wasteful government.

If you wish to tolerate so called adults acting like juveniles, that is your prerogative. I choose not to and when confronted by those who act like juveniles or worse yet, like spoiled children, I call them out on it and move on to someone who can engage in intelligent conversation.

That is correct. Its the only thing you do have since whatever opinion you form is formed because of your own internal thought process. You are free to look at other people's opinions and the reasons and examine their reasons for them but you are sole judge of what you think is true.

How can you not be the sole judge of what you think is true? To say otherwise is allowing other people to make that decision for you.

I feel considering the opinions of experts when searching for the truth to be a relatively reasonable thing to do…

If I understand you correctly in your response to my post, you insinuate that 'reason' is simply a concept weighed on a relative scale housed only in the minds of each individual. In reality, 'reasonable' has a communal, common-sense connotation. It means most people would feel the same way. When dealing with politics, or life in general for that matter, understanding what's 'reasonable' is a survival skill.

My point was to voice frustration with politically interested people who fight to the extreme to defend their political party's team agenda instead of opening up to the possibility that another side of the story exists and may actually have legitimacy.

It's article titles like the ones on this site that are an indication of what I mean. They can all be summed up in "How die hard Republicans can counter any Liberal argument in a snarky and clever way".

That really shouldn't be the goal….

You fail to understand the concept of reason. What reason do you have for believing something which is always your own. It is not necessarily correct but simply stating the justification for your own thinking. A person who listens to reason usually is listening to their own reasoning and the reasoning of others and decide FOR THEMSELVES WHAT IS CORRECT. That is independent thinking in itself. I can't say that people on the left do that since they heavily depend on expert opinion as a substitution for their own. That is not thinking or reasoning since you are not judging what is true for yourself.
