6. Challenge them on profanity.
We have already covered this to some extent in the tantrum section, but it bears noting that you should never use profanity, and when they (invariably) do, immediately employ the same indulgent adult we just described: “Now, now. Does someone need their mouth washed out?”
Alternative route: Immediate and concise rule reminder. “Profanity is the sign of a limited vocabulary. Kindly refrain from using it, as it is antithetical to a civil discussion.”
