Indian authorities are not taking any chances with the Obamas or their entourage. Officials have ordered that all coconuts be removed from the palm trees surrounding the Ghandi museum in Mumbai. In addition to the coconut removal, a bomb- proof tunnel will be built as an extra precaution when the president travels to Mani Bhavan, the museum site:

From Daily Mail:

While they were inspecting the route and the buildings lining the path to the museum, U.S. security officers noticed a nearby skyscraper in the highly populated area that could pose a threat.

To the amazement of the Indians accompanying the U.S. agents, it was apparently decided to erect a bomb-proof over-ground tunnel, which will be installed by U.S. military engineers in just an hour.

An Obama administration official reportedly stated that the $200 million a day price tag for the president’s 10-day excursion was “wildly inflated.” And Tommy Vietor, White House spokesman stated, that ‘the numbers have no basis in reality.”

Still, with accounts of the de-coconuting and an over-ground bomb tunnel Americans may begin to wonder if the cost might be a tad higher than $2 billion for the 10-day jaunt. The president has  250 business executives, including GE’s Jeffrey Immelt and Honeywell’s David Cote  to protect. Also along for the ride are six university presidents, 34 warships, thousands of CIA personnel, U.S. military, extended family and invited guests. The $10 billion Obama hopes to finagle in the “biggest trade mission ever” may not even cover his expenses.

I hear British taxpayers supported the royals to the tune of $58 million last year. After two years of the Obamas, that sounds downright reasonable.
