When Did You Stop Beating Your Wife, Congressman Wilson?

Seriously, though—when did Congressman Charlie Wilson (D, OH-06) stop beating his wife?  Moreover, why is the media covering this up?

Two weeks ago, Big Government editor Mike Flynn obtained Belmont County (Ohio) court documents that revealed that Wilson repeatedly beat his wife Clara, to the point where she would be unable to stand.

According to Wilson’s own testimony, he would regularly kick, slap, beat, and punch Clara, accusing her of adultery.  Clara’s deposition states that Congressman Wilson punched her with enough force to knock the wind of her, leaving her beaten and bloodied, slumped up against the kitchen cabinet.

To this day, the Ohio news media refuse to report the fact that a Democratic incumbent candidate physically abused his wife brutally over a period of years.  As if this wasn’t bad enough, it gets worse: Ohio political “journalists” are actively covering for Congressman Wilson.

On his Twitter account, Ohio News Network political reporter Jim Heath dismissed the revelation as “a twenty-year old personal matter,” and dismissed Wilson’s history of spousal abuse as, quote, “that whole glass-house and stones thing.”

When I asked him what he meant by this, Heath went on to say that it was ridiculous to suggest that “extreme cruelty” and a record of tyrannical physical abuse against one’s wife had any bearing on one’s record or ability to represent the voters of Ohio’s Sixth Congressional District.

Heath has since deleted the tweets in question, but has not deleted the original “stones and glass houses thing” tweet.

Speaking for his colleague David Skolnick, political reporter for the Youngstown Vindicator, Capital Bureau chief Marc Kovac said, lamely, that Skolnick, or any other reporter for that matter, was simply “too busy” to cover the story of Wilson’s wife-beating ways.

This isn’t just something endemic to Columbus and Youngstown reporters.  As far anyone can tell, exactly zero “traditional” news outlets have seen fit to report on Wilson’s… questionable… avenues of venting his anger.

As NRO’s Jim Geraghty quips, “wife-beating isn’t big news in Ohio.”  I think the more accurate lesson to learn is that when you are an Obama Democrat like Wilson, it’s not news, because the people who write the news say so.
