I’ve seen anti-Catholic political attacks and I’ve seen anti-Christian political attacks, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a political attack ad that uses Catholic imagery to attack a Protestant candidate–until now.

Are these leftists ignorant and bigoted enough to think a completely dishonest and anti-religious political ad is relevant? Or are they just trying to win the “stupid” vote?

A flyer distributed by the leftist Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party in Minnesota uses an image of a man in black wearing the traditional Roman collar of a Catholic priest and a pin that says “Ignore the Poor.” Initially, some in Catholic media interpreted this to be an anti-Catholic ad.

A Democrat Party supporting independent non profit group has sent out perhaps THE most anti-Catholic political advertisement I’ve ever seen. Sometimes there’s a little subtlety to anti-Catholic political rhetoric but not this time. This is in your face anti-Catholicism. A postcard was sent out to voters with a photo shopped picture of a Catholic priest wearing a campaign button saying: ‘Ignore the Poor.’

Upon further investigation, it was learned that the target is not even Catholic. He’s a Protestant pastor.

‘I’ve never worn a collar,’ Hall told EWTN News in a Tuesday interview. ‘It’s a slam on me, but they’re using you guys and it’s sad.’ He reported that he is a lay pastor at Assembly of God River Valley Church in Apple Valley, Minn. ‘None of us wear collars,’ he explained, noting that many clergy of other denominations do. Another flyer critical of Hall shows the altar of what appears to be an ornate Catholic Church, with a statue resembling St. Anthony of Padua behind it. Superimposed on the flyer are two banners reading “VOTE.” It is headlined with the phrase ‘Dan Hall: Talks like a preacher. Acts like a politician.’ ‘It’s certainly not the sanctuary we have,’ Hall commented to EWTN News. ‘It looks as Catholic as I have ever seen.’

Sometimes, leftist hatred of religion is so blatantly ignorant and devoid of truth, only the invincibly stupid would buy it. This appears to be one of those times.
