taxpayer- yes, me too. My oldest is 11- if I want her to see something on the computer, I set it up for her. The learning curve is really fast with computers- when it is time for her to learn, it will take no time.

I find the lack of enforcement BY law enforcement to be troubling.
Their tactic here appears to be similar to a female cop pretending to be a hooker. It's much easier to keep an eye on the streetwalker, coppers. I also recommend that cops (even if they are retired) be rotated out of units like that lest they too be lured by that trash.
Finally, there are many other ways for pedophiles to share files, the kids just don't know about them - yet.

Awesome, awesome piece, Diane. Thank you!

One thing I could point out to the FB execs, if they would give members any way to contact them, is that their reporting system is so specific that it doesn't give appropriate options for reporting all instances of inappropriate content that come up.

Last month, I had been trying to report a page that was created for the sole purpose of linking to a RSOL (Reform Sex Offender Laws)/pro-pedophile website created by a registered sex offender. Their page reporting system doesn't include anything for that... you can report a profile belonging to a RSO (and sometimes they're even removed once they're reported) but there is absolutely no way to report a page that is set up to promote the disgusting thoughts of a RSO.

I tried everything to get them to take a look at the page and follow the link... I reported it using the system in place, I searched for a means to contact somebody, anybody, at Facebook, and finally I posted in the "help section", which went completely unnoticed by anyone at FB, but did get the attention of several people complaining that they had tried to get registered sex offenders banned repeatedly, but they were still there (I was able to help all but one get them removed.)

The only thing that finally got their attention and caused the page to be removed was that Fox piece. Maybe at that point they finally decided to get with the program and look into a backlog of complaints, I have no idea. But it took several weeks before the page was finally gone.

Something that a lot of parents don't realize about FB is that when you post pictures, anyone on your list can share those pictures with people on their lists. You may know and trust the folks on your list, but do you know and trust all the people each of them has on their lists? FB used to have an option to not allow people to share your photos, but they've chosen to do away with that for some unknown reason.

They also don't realize that, not only is it OK to check out detailed information about their children's online activity, but it's their job to do so, and they could be saving their child a world of hurt. Every parent who allows their child on FB (or any networking site) should have an account themselves, and have their child on their friend list. Check out everyone who is on your child's list, and check the people on their list. If you're worried about your child having an account that you don't know about, chances are that account will be on at least one of their friends' list, as well. Don't be afraid to snoop. Don't allow your child to have a computer with internet access in their bedroom. Keep it in a family room. And for goodness sake, don't get them a webcam. If you have one for long-distance family conversation, keep it put away unless you give them permission to use it and will be in the general vicinity of the computer.
