Seems Michelle Obama, stumping in Milwaukee for Russ Feingold last week, can stuff herself with french fries while WIC recipients and schoolchildren are being cut off from the tubers.
Under an interim rule, the USDA agreed to bar WIC participants from buying potatoes, with their federal dollars. Potatoes are the only vegetables not allowed. Next year, the agency will roll out a final rule on the WIC program which last year served 9.3 million children and pregnant and breast-feeding women considered at risk for malnutrition.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) also announced that changes are coming for the federally subsidized lunch programs by the end of this year. Potatoes will become “less common.”
The attack on the starchy spuds has roused growers to defend their crop. They insist that potatoes are filled with potassium and vitamin C and one farmer in Washington state has begun a 60-day all potato diet in protest.
So what’s next for the control freaks in the Obama administration; you know, the chain smokers, lobster eaters, and the beer drinkers? Michelle has already asked restauranteurs to cut the salt, the sweets and the butter from their concoctions.
Where will it stop?
The eco-green revolution fanatics won’t rest until we are all scrounging for berries and chomping leafy vegetation in the forest. Or until the progressives regulate the entire food industry Soviet-style.
So fight back. All liberty-loving Americans must support the courageous men and women in the potato fields by eating lots of tater tots and french fries.
Follow Michelle Obama’s example and pig out.
