This is what Sharia enforcers look like in many parts of the world.

It boggles the mind how much of the Left-leaning media is still arguing that Sharia is not so bad.  The strict enforcement of Islamic law all over the world brings slavery, violence,  and destruction.  Children are often the hardest hit target, as the situation in Somalia in recent weeks has shown.

In the last couple of weeks a few small news organizations began to report on a Christian family being attacked in this East African nation.  On July 21, 2010 Al-Shabaab insurgents broke into the home of Osman Abdullah Fataho and shot him dead in front of his wife and 4 children.  Fataho was a Muslim convert to Christianity and was a leader in an underground church group.  The Al-Shabaab then told the wife that she could go but they were keeping the children.

Why would the Al-Shabaab movement keep the kids of the man they just murdered?  Their goal was to brainwash them into converting to Islam and then train the children as terrorists to help enforce Sharia.  Abducted were: 5-year-old Ali Daud Fataho; 7-year-old Fatuma Safia Fataho; 10-year-old Sharif Ahmed Fataho and 15 year-old Nur Said Fataho.

“We know they have taken the children to brain-wash them, to change their way of life from Christian to Muslim and to teach them the Quran,” an anonymous source told Compass Direct News.

There is a transitional government in Mogadishu that is led by President Sheikh Sharif Sheik Ahmed who has embraced a version of sharia that mandates the death penalty for anyone converting from Islam.  Much of the violence is carried out by insurgent groups like Al Shabaab which has links to Al Qaeda and hopes to promote an even stronger Taliban-like government.

Most of Somalia is ruled by Muslim insurgent groups that make sure violence and the fear of violence is everywhere.  In 2009 many Christians were killed in that area, including women and children.  Al-Shabaab even recently outlawed bell-ringing at the end of school classes – because it evoked the sound of church bells.

Christian News Today details some specifics of the violence perpetuated by Al-Shabaab:

“In its campaign to eliminate ‘vice’, al-Shabab has stoned to death girls who have been raped, shot and killed boys caught watching football and executed many ‘apostates’. In September 2008 Mansuur Mohammed (25) became the first Somali Christian to be martyred at the hands of al-Shabab. After being publicly denounced as a ‘murtid’ (traitor to Islam), Mohammed rejected an offer to convert to Islam and be spared, submitting instead to a public beheading, a film of which was widely distributed. In February 2009 al-Shabab militants beheaded Musa Mohammed Yusuf’s 11- and 13-year-old sons after he refused to divulge information about a local church leader. On 10 July 200 9 seven Somalis were publicly beheaded in Baidoa simply for being Christians. To date some 20 Somali Christians — most of them church leaders — are known to have been shot or beheaded as al-Shabab systematically targets the Somali Church for elimination.”

The spread and power of Al-Shabaab is only growing.  With children of victims now being added to their army of terrorists, they are constantly expanding.  In mid-September the insurgents seized both radio and television stations in Mogadishu.  They are using suicide bombers to take out any government officials who aren’t on their side.

Without intervention Somalia could soon be another nation that looks eerily similar to the 2001 Taliban government in Afghanistan. And much like the Taliban, their violent cause for the spread of Sharia will not stop on the borders of their country or even the shores of their continent.
