For those of you tracking Congressman Anthony Weiner’s trajectory towards some kind of assisted living situation, when last we saw him he was decompensating on the House floor after a procedural end-run had backfired and a bill with bipartisan support had been defeated.

(Rumor has it that the extended version of this clip ends with a frenzied staffer running up the aisle with an egg timer and a hypo of Thorazine, but I haven’t been able to lay hands on it yet, sorry.)

Anyway, it would appear that Rep. Wiener has taken a brief respite from dancing with the Archduke in the ballroom of his mind to devote time to another of his fetishes–Goldline, and it’s demonic overlord Glenn Beck. As Paul Cooper relates in yesterday’s NRB:

This coming Thursday (9/23/10) the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection, part of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, will hold a hearing on .R. 6149, the “Precious Coins and Bullion Disclosure Act.”  Guess who their central target is?  Glenn Beck’s Goldline.

All of this put me in mind of a piece I wrote on the selfsame subject last May. Noting that virtually nothing has changed in the interim – certainly not Weiner’s understanding of, or willingness to understand, basic commerce, nor the particular combination of clumsiness and malice he brings to pretty much any situation he chooses to insinuate himself into– I thought it might be instructive to revisit it.

So without further ado, sit back, smoke ’em if you’ve got ’em as we bring you “Glenn Beck and Goldline — The Weiner Re-Link.”
