I hope you’re sitting down, as the following statement might lead to injury for the unprepared. Ready? Michael Moore is on the wrong side of the Ground Zero Mosque issue.

Okay, maybe that’s not so shocking. Still, you may want to stay in your seat, grab a soothing beverage, and take a few deep controlled breaths before we delve into just how far on the wrong side he is. Not content merely to side with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and the Cordoba Initiative’s plan to build a mosque two blocks from the pit where the World Trade Center once stood, Moore wishes to take the insult to America further.

I want it built on Ground Zero.

Why? Because I believe in an America that protects those who are the victims of hate and prejudice. I believe in an America that says you have the right to worship whatever God you have, wherever you want to worship. And I believe in an America that says to the world that we are a loving and generous people and if a bunch of murderers steal your religion from you and use it as their excuse to kill 3,000 souls, then I want to help you get your religion back. And I want to put it at the spot where it was stolen from you.

This is the same brand of wholly disingenuous demagoguery for which Moore’s name has become synonymous. Moore has expressed no such solidarity with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, who has been unable to unwind itself from the red tape necessary to rebuild a church which was destroyed alongside the World Trade Center on September 11th. Nor was Moore aroused to action in support of Glenn Beck and his Black Robe Regiment when the Kennedy Center told them they could not pray during their August 27th Divine Destiny event.

Moore’s concern is not religious liberty, but the selective flaunting of the concept in an obnoxious attempt to recapture the grandeur of agitations past. So intent is he upon salting American wounds, he has taken to fundraising on behalf of the mosque.

I say right now. Let’s each of us make a statement by donating to the building of this community center! … I will personally match the first $10,000 raised…

While you consider a contribution, enjoy these refutations of Moore’s ten “facts” regarding the Ground Zero Mosque.
