That could mean we still might hear the crackling pages of Mohammad’s message going up in smoke.
Imam Muhammad Musri of the Islamic Society of Central Florida was as the press conference with Terry Jones for the announcement. Musri made it clear to the press that the decision to not build at Ground Zero is not final. But Jones claims Musri assured him the mosque would be moved. I’m not sure why Jones trusted Imam Musri considering the leader of seven mosques has lied about Muslim conversions to Christianity for years.
In fact, hours after the press conference Jones said Mursi “clearly, clearly lied to us.”
“Given what we are now hearing, we are forced to rethink our decision. So as of right now, we are not canceling the event, but we are suspending it.” – Jones
Musri says Jones stretched the Imam’s words. He only promised to go to New York to talk to Imam Rauf, and that he personally believed the mosque should not be built at Ground Zero. Imam Rauf is happy the Korans might not be burnt, but he doesn’t seem too keen on changing his building plans.
“We are not going to toy with our religion or any other. Nor are we going to barter.” – Rauf
Hopefully Jones will decide to not burn the Korans regardless of what Imam Rauf does. I would be shocked if the stubborn Imam suddenly showed some grace or thoughtfulness about the whole situation. Really Jones and Rauf have a lot in common. They both don’t seem to care about increasing terrorism in our country, and neither man seems to give a rip about unity in America.
Maybe Obama should call another beer summit and let the two work it all out. Better make it kool-aid.
