The best action stars are those who are believable not just as combatants, but as men you recognize – with flaws, foibles, and vulnerabilities. Bruce Willis has set that standard time and again.

It is easy to forget that in 1988, Die Hard’s John McClain was a relatively reserved hero when compared to the exaggerated trends of the time. His performance marked a shift toward more realistic action narratives. In a similar way, Willis stands apart as a more realistic celebrity.

“Everyone has a right to bear arms. If you take guns away from legal gun owners, then the only people who have guns are the bad guys.” Even a pacifist, he insists, would get violent if someone were trying to kill him. “You would fight for your life.”
