In June of this year reports began to surface of men driving around and firing on women with paintball guns if they did not approve of their apparel. What was President Kadyrov’s response? In a television interview in July he gave his full blessing to the act and said he would like to “award a commedation” to the shooters for their great service.
Human Rights Watch has made it very clear that this type of leadership is causing a problem, and has asked the Russian government to step in to pull back the violent spread of Sharia.
“When a public official like Ramzan Kadyrov praises this cruel violence, he is openly encouraging physical assault and public humiliation of women. It’s time the federal government stood up for the rights of Chechen women.” – Human Rights Watch
So far Russia has not done anything of significance to impede the violence shown against girls and women because of strict Sharia law. They support Kadyrov even though he has specifically said that Sharia trumps Russian law. As America deals with questions of the spread of Sharia into our country, we would be wise to observe what is happening with other nations further along in the process.
