Few things are more ugly than a man who would whore out his own bride for personal folly. Professed Catholic and MSNBC commentator Chris Matthews has done exactly that to his own church in a petty attempt to bring shame on Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor rally. Matthews’ utter failure to report important facts has resulted in a giddy public smearing of Glenn Beck, Pastor John Hagee, Sarah Palin, other rally attendees as well as the Catholic Church which Matthews claims to love. What’s more, it’s clearly intentional.
The story begins with gross ineptitude, at best, in Joan Walsh’s report on the rally in which she pointed out that Hagee had once called the Catholic Church “the Whore of Babylon“. She adds the names of Beck and Palin as if they are agreeable to such views.
Poor John McCain welcomed Hagee’s endorsement in 2008, only to have to reject it as more of his hateful proselytizing came to light. I certainly hope the Catholic League’s Bill Donohue, who bashed Hagee in 2008 and called on McCain to reject his backing, will denounce Beck and Palin as well now.
Walsh completely failed to mention that Hagee has reversed his views on this matter after dialogue and study with faithful Catholics and has fully reconciled with Catholics on this issue.
